vEGAS pro 8 & M-Audio Fast Track Pro

very happy with Vegas 8.0 but am in need of voice over capabilities... MY PROBLEM-I bought M-Audio Fast Track Pro to facilitate voice over. Everything is recognized through Vegas 8.0. except I CAN'T RECORD!!! I can't even monitor my voice through mic and headphones in M-Audio.. Have checked everything appropriate on Options/preferences and also OS on my computer.

Help!

Two things to try:
1) Is it a condenser mic? If so, you need to turn on phantom power.
2) Otherwise you need to try a different xlr cable. You didn't say what your mic is.
