Vegas Pro 8 - Multicamera questions

overtoner wrote on 10/13/2008, 2:35 PM
I have a transition point to switch from Camera 1 to Camera 2 - how do I:
1) Move this point up or down the time line.

2) Remove this transition altogether

I'm a newbie to Vegas - I thought this would be simple but can't figure it out.

Also, once I have created a multicamera track - is it possible to go back and access the individual audio track. The sound on one should be set a little higher.

Thanks

The video on the top track is what's shown. To see what's on the lower track you'll need to remove what's on the top track. Click with your mouse on the place on track 1 where you want the cut to occur: click the "S" key. This will create a split in the video. Put the mouse cursor at the edge of the split and you'll see the shape of the cursor change to what looks like a "U" on its side. Left click and hold down the mouse key. Drag the edge and you'll open a hole in the track 1 video that will allow the track 2 video to be seen.

For a perhaps more literate discussion read the manual and "HELP" material, where you'll find a full description of working with material on the time line.

The individual tracks -- video and audio -- are given priority by clicking on them. To adjust an audio track click on it to highlight it, go to the track header and right click; choose "Add volume envelope" and adjust away. Here again, the manual and HELP menu gives lots of information on how to do this.

Hope this helps.

Jack - thanks for your response - but I'm confused - is your solution for a multicamera track? All three cameras are part of track one.

I'm assuming you are using the actual multicamera feature in Pro 8 (it sounds like you are).

I have a transition point to switch from Camera 1 to Camera 2 - how do I:

Hold down Ctrl-Alt and hover your mouse over the transition. Now click on the transition itself and you can drag it left or right on the timeline. The video sources remain put, only the transition point moves.

2) Remove this transition altogether

I don't think there is any way to remove it. Maybe somebody else can say if this is possible on multicam tracks.

Also, once I have created a multicamera track - is it possible to go back and access the individual audio track. The sound on one should be set a little higher.

I'm pretty sure the multi-cam track affects ONLY the video tracks. All the audio tracks should be in place just as before, and can be adjusted independently.

1) Click and drag the edge of the take.

2) Right-click on the take and choose the other active take. There is still a split point on the timeline, but ignore it, it is doing no harm.

3) Don't check "Enable multicamera audio with video" when you create the multicamera track. This will leave all the audio tracks alone and you can do whatever you want with them.

yes - I think I included the audio tracks when I created the multicamera track.

I'm just going to overlay one audio track again - it needed to be a little louder.

I can't seem to take away the transition effect - and I can't see anywhere to define it to do nothing or act as a blank transition.

Q1, TimL has it right. CTL-ALT and slip the transition edge. The mouse cursor changes to an icon that resembles an open book and the preview window splits into 2 anamorphic panels side-by-side showing the source and destination takes. This makes it very easy to locate the exact transition point you're looking for.

Q2. Music vid has one answer. Another way is to enable multicam editing [if not on yet], scrub to the first frame of the new take and click on one of the other cameras in the preview pane [or use the corresponding keyboard command].

It's also very helpful to expand the track layers when working on a multicam track.

You're right, I should have said Ctrl+Alt Drag.
I use this so much it has become automatic, I forgot the keys.
