Vegas Pro 8 sees HDR HC1, but can't open it.

Sorry if someone has addressed this long ago, but...
All of a sudden, my Vegas Pro 8.0b can't open my Sony HDR-HC1. It sees it for a second, then doesn't. I opened Vidcap.exe from inside and outside Vegas... no difference.
Vista sees the camera fine, though.

Any thoughts? I just installed Skype, which has video elements, but I can't imagine that's it.

Any help would be appreciated.

I never was able to get V8 to open files from my HC-1s on my Q6600 (V8 works fine on my old P4 machine); so I installed the free HDVsplit and never have had a problem (on the Q6600 - HDVsplit won't work at all on my P4!). I can capture with preview on, with or without scene detection - no problems unless I make to the preview window too large.

I've used Vp8 with my HC1 numerous times... if you're using vidcap, then you're capturing regular DV not HDV of course....

All of a sudden? Have you done any software installs or any changes to your software?....
