Vegas Pro 8 - Veg file type conundrum.

Mahesh wrote on 10/4/2007, 3:28 AM
When I installed V8 trial, it renamed all veg file types in my system as 'Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 TRIAL' I was not happy that it had taken the liberty of relabelling all files either saved in V5 or V6 as 'Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 TRIAL'. Now that I have actually applied an upgrade serial number, I was expecting V8 to stop labelling veg files as TRIAL.
How can I make it stop:(

In Windows Explorer click Tools / Folder Options / File Types. Scroll down to .VEG, select it, click Advanced. In the Edit File Type window that pops open change the label to whatever you want and click OK.

Thanks Kelly. I did not know I could that. Another step towards mastery of Windows.
I am still puzzled why SCS decided to change file type for trial version.

It didn't change the file type at all. It changed the file association to the new vegas .exe file and inserted a label that described that file. When you registered your serial number the .exe file didn't change, so there was no need to update the file association.

Yeah, kinda confusing.

I think we could (and should) argue the reverse, as it is no longer a trial at that point.

Seems an oversight.

Well, the point is that registering the serial number didn't change what program opens .veg files. It was installing the trial version that changed it.

I still think SCS should not have changed the file type label on installation of trial version. If SCS thought it was absolutely essentiaa to do so, then it should have included the details in release notes.

I would regard that as client courtesy :)

It's very simple to right click on a veg file and then choose what version of Vegas you want it to open in.

You can also open Vegas 7 and the open your V7 veggies.
