I've got a some weird issues with Vegas Pro 8. I've got the software installed on my workstation at the office (Dell Precision machine, quadcore Xeon, Vista Business installed) and at a Dell XPS machine at home (Windows XP Pro) and a Sony Vaio laptop (Vista).
I'm editing a couple of short educational films and use an external harddisk (USB) to work on. What happens is that when I re-open a Vegas file on an OTHER Vista system, I can't save the VEG file after editing on that system - Vegas gives an error (can't create file or an error something similar). When I use Save As and use a different file name it succeeds. As if I can't overwrite an existing file when that has been previously edited on another computer.
Tonight, an even weirder issue happened with DVD Architect 5. I edited some subtitles in an existing project file (last edited on another machine). I used the File, Save function when I was ready. That seemed to work. But I didn't saw the flle date/time change of the DAR-file in the Windows Explorer. I thought it was a kind of delayed 'view refreshing' in Vista so I closed DVD-Architect. No warning messages about 'do you want to save the file' appeared so I presumed all was done well. But then when I reopened the DAR file, it was like it was when I started the subtitle editing tonight, so I lost my work from tonight (damn!).
There seems to be some file access rights problem which never happened when I worked on different XP machines. I don't think it's a installation fault of the software, as it appears on different machines, all with Vista.
All machines contain a factory installed OS.
All machines have Mcafee or Norton security, updated.
I work on all machines under the same 'log in' name with Administrator rights.
It happens with 2 different external USB hard drives (I haven't tested any more, but both drives work fine so I don't think it's them being faulty).
I have installed Vegas Pro8c and DVD-Architect 5 the official way, all legally obtained software.
The systems don't contain any exotic other programs or tools, everything is very standard.
I think there is a kind of rights issue in Vista with SCS programs, has anyone a good suggestion where to find the solution for these weird problems? Big thanx in advance.
(PS: I use only my own systems, so the problem occurs during swapping between my own computers, not from somebody else.)
