Vegas Pro 8 - Vista problem (PLEASE HELP)

I've got a some weird issues with Vegas Pro 8. I've got the software installed on my workstation at the office (Dell Precision machine, quadcore Xeon, Vista Business installed) and at a Dell XPS machine at home (Windows XP Pro) and a Sony Vaio laptop (Vista).
I'm editing a couple of short educational films and use an external harddisk (USB) to work on. What happens is that when I re-open a Vegas file on an OTHER Vista system, I can't save the VEG file after editing on that system - Vegas gives an error (can't create file or an error something similar). When I use Save As and use a different file name it succeeds. As if I can't overwrite an existing file when that has been previously edited on another computer.

Tonight, an even weirder issue happened with DVD Architect 5. I edited some subtitles in an existing project file (last edited on another machine). I used the File, Save function when I was ready. That seemed to work. But I didn't saw the flle date/time change of the DAR-file in the Windows Explorer. I thought it was a kind of delayed 'view refreshing' in Vista so I closed DVD-Architect. No warning messages about 'do you want to save the file' appeared so I presumed all was done well. But then when I reopened the DAR file, it was like it was when I started the subtitle editing tonight, so I lost my work from tonight (damn!).

There seems to be some file access rights problem which never happened when I worked on different XP machines. I don't think it's a installation fault of the software, as it appears on different machines, all with Vista.
All machines contain a factory installed OS.
All machines have Mcafee or Norton security, updated.
I work on all machines under the same 'log in' name with Administrator rights.
It happens with 2 different external USB hard drives (I haven't tested any more, but both drives work fine so I don't think it's them being faulty).
I have installed Vegas Pro8c and DVD-Architect 5 the official way, all legally obtained software.
The systems don't contain any exotic other programs or tools, everything is very standard.

I think there is a kind of rights issue in Vista with SCS programs, has anyone a good suggestion where to find the solution for these weird problems? Big thanx in advance.

(PS: I use only my own systems, so the problem occurs during swapping between my own computers, not from somebody else.)

I never had the problem you describe, but sounds like it might be related to the Vista User Access Control (UAC). I've since moved on to Windows 7.

You could try disabling the UAC temporarily to see if that helps.

How is windows 7 working for you? Are you running the beta full time? Is it that stable? Thanks.

"You could try disabling the UAC temporarily to see if that helps."

Or you could disable it permanently. It's worthless.

"All machines have Mcafee or Norton security, updated. "

Get rid of that garbage!

Search the threads and you'll find people that have had more problems with these 2 programs. They should be completely and totally disabled, removed, and junked.

What Blink is trying to say is that both softwares install a huge amount of files and that they tend to interfere with everything else, like your old lady talking when you are trying to drive. Norton slows the speed of your computer by 20%.

Not using Windows 7 beta, I'm running the Release Candidate (RC) build 7100.
It is everything Vista should have been and wasn't.

I concur about Norton and McAfee - they are horrible resource hogs. It is VERY difficult to get rid of them completely as they hide stuff all over under names you would never associate with Norton/McAfee. Mostly useless stuff to make it so hard to get rid of - you just update and hope for the best. I use AVG free and it works ok and doesn't hog resources.

So far Win 7 RC is working on my machine with both Cineform and Vegas Pro 9.

Yes, it's a Vista thing, UAC. Disable it, you don't need it, that's the problem.

RE: Norton... I agree. I use AVG too, but I have two computers - one to connect to the Web, the other is my production machine. I only connect the prod comp to the web when doing system updates (updated Vista to SP2) or registering programs, and I only load AVG then. All other times, the comp is disconnected from the web.
