Vegas Pro and Directx8.0a

Problems and more problems. If you are running vegas pro, don't install directx8.0a. It makes the otherwise stable software (vegas pro) useless. It crashes, plugins don't work right etc....

Anyone else found this problem? Anyone else know a work around for it. I don't want to upgrade to the newer versions of vegas. I've tried the demo's and they prove to be far less stable and less efficient than the original vegas pro.

Anyhelp would be appreciated.

thanks

Since Vegas Pro came out long before DirectX 8.0 was released, it was never tested or optimized for use with that version. I'm not sure what version of Windows you're using, but Vegas Pro was never tested with Windows ME, so that may be complicating matters as well. You may want to check out a demo of Vegas Audio 2.0. In my experience, version 2.0 is much more stable than Vegas Pro 1.0. The demo is here:

Yes, I had exactly the same problem and the only workaround I found was to de-install DX 8.0a and re-install DX7. Since then all has been fine - but SF will rap your knuckles if you do! :)

Just curious...
How did you de-install DirectX 8a? Did it work without problems?
I have a Beta DirectX 8.1 installed which I would love to de-install...
Thanks

I'm running ME and DX8.0a with Vegas Pro. No problems. I installed DirectX first, which may or may not make a difference.

I have discovered that installing and uninstalling lots of proggies, such as game demos, will soon cause problems, as system files get overwritten and your registry becomes bloated. Re-installing Windows will usually tighten up these problems.

I'm still using my Amiga for MIDI stuff and have only installed the OS once in 9 years. Go figure!

One time I used DXbuster, another time I used GoBack. Both worked fine to uninstall DX8.0a. But be warned that if you do this SF will not support you as they consider this a hack.

Here is afast fix.

Replace the file devenum.dll (in windows/system )
with the one that came on your original win 98 cd.

I think this should solve your problems.

As far as I know all versions of DirectX 8.1 beta will have timed out by now which is a bit of a pain, especially as there is no official way of removing it (and without removing DirectX 8.1 beta you can't re-install DirectX 8.0a).

But there is an easy way to get rid of it - have a look at http://www.geocities.com/firecat182 where you will find a nice free app called "DirectX Eradicator". This can remove all known versions of DirectX up to and including DirectX 8.1, and once you have removed the beta you can then re-install DirectX 8.0a and return to normality.

That is exactly my problem: I was given a Dx version 4.08.01.0579 (I installed not knowing it was BETA) which expired with all those irritating messages. Since there was no Official version available (other than 8.0a which just does not instal over the newer 8.1) I was stuck with the messages untill I found a new Beta version 4.08.01.0682 which so far is still not producing any messages (or problems), but I certainly would be happier with the current official 8.0a if at all possible...
Thanks for the information, I will check on this program.

Thank you all for the informations....
I have just downloaded DxEradicator and it worked flawlessly to remove the Beta 8.1 Dx I had. After that I just installed Dx 8.0a without problems and everything is back to the latest official Dx as I wanted...
It seems, at least for Win98Se, Dx eradicator is quite safe to use.
