Vegas Pro Edit 15 constantly crashing

Having used Vegas for a decade under the Sony name with no issues, version 15 is just colossally unstable. It crashes randomly a few times per hour, and ALWAYS crashes when doing the following:

Stabilizing video

Importing Cineform files

I was using it on a very underpowered machine at first, then I built a new system expecting the issues to go away. But they actually got WORSE. For reference, here's my rig:

Ryzen 7 2700

16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000 MHz DDR4

Asus B540 mobo

GeForce GTX 1050 2GB DDR5 GPU

Kingston 240GB NVMe system drive, 2 x 1TB 7200RPM (mirrored) HDD for media

And for the record, I'm using a version purchased through Humble Bundle.

Some guidance would be appreciated.

A few things to try (things I always check first, since they're the most common cause of issues):

1. Disable GPU acceleration in preferences. Does stability improve, even though performance may drop? This isn't a solution, just for diagnosis.

  1. 2. See if you can update to the latest STUDIO driver from Nvidia. Your GPU is on the older end, but it does meet the minimum specs for v15, so maybe there's a driver conflict.

Yeah, disabling GPU acceleration was one of the first things I did. And my drivers are all up do date. This is very frustrating, as my editing workload has gone up substantially. I've trained myself to reflexively hitt CTRL-S after every single edit so I'm not really losing any work, but this shouldn't be happening. Meanwhile Resolve isn't even supposed to work with my GPU and it does just fine with HD work. I may have to make the switch, but I really don't want to because Vegas is a great editor.
