Vegas Pro/MOTU 2408

I'm relatively new to digital recording, although I have had
a 16 track analog set up for over 10 years. I recently
bought 2 Tascam DA-88 to ease into digital and then wanted a
way to get that onto a hard drive, so I bought the MOTU 2408
and then needed a software package with multitrack
capabilities. As a satisfied user of Sound Forge and Acid I
thought Vegas Proi would be the way to go. Now...the fun
begins. What is the best way to try and sync together all
these components (my master sync is the MOTU MTP AV) and the
DA-88 master has the SY-88 card installed. Because of
latency am I better off doing all recording to tape and then
transferring it into Vegas Pro for mixing only? Any help or
advice would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I also am
trying to incorporate virtual MIDI tracks in the final
mixdown. (i.e. 16 tracks of DA-88 tape plus 16 tracks of
MIDI tracks).

Gerry,
I am using a Motu 2408 and had the latency problem when I
evaluated the demo version of Vegas Pro. Other than this one problem,
the program is excellent. It has an outstanding user interface.
I am using Cakwalk Pro 8 with a latency of only 1-2 Msec.
Sound Foundry is working the problem with their Vegas Pro and the
Motu 2408. See messages 1521, 1528, 1529, 1569 and 1579 for more on
this subject.

Is this problem specific to the 2408 ONLY or all MOTU PCI-based
interfaces? I have the 1224 and haven't noticed any major latency
problems as of yet...

Also...Has a solution been reached to solve the incompatibility? If
not, what's the expected date?

Thanks
