Hello, I am interested in the question of how Vegas Pro purchased on the website differs from the Steam edition. Are there any restrictions, or do you not receive the latest updates?
From Steam's Vegas Pro 23 product page (under 'Discussion') re the same question asked by someone else but with the reply based on an AI search (looks like it could be CoPilot):
- VEGAS Pro 23 (Standard Edition): Purchased directly from MAGIX or authorized resellers. It uses MAGIX’s own license management system and can be installed and run independently. - Steam Edition: Purchased via Steam and tied to your Steam account. It uses Steam’s DRM, meaning Steam must be running to launch the software. - Standard Edition: Typically includes 12 months of free updates and access to MAGIX’s support and download center. - Steam Edition: Also receives updates, but they are distributed through Steam. Some users report differences in how updates and activations are handled. In terms of core functionality—editing tools, effects, and performance—both editions are essentially the same. The choice mostly comes down to your preferred platform and whether you value Steam integration or MAGIX’s standalone ecosystem.

It was mentioned on this forum some years ago that Steam only allows activation on one computer at a time whereas a MAGIX license allows 2 concurrent activations.
Also, my understanding is that having a Steam version of Vegas Pro does not entitle upgrade pricing to a later Vegas Pro version from MAGIX's official website.
