Vegas pro11 errors, crashes, and annoying problems

apsolonproductions wrote on 10/21/2011, 12:46 PM
I purchased vegas 11 the other day just to jump in but I am now kind of regretting it. I have had to revert to 10 for the time being. Here are the spec of my system:

HP Pavilion Elite HPE
64 bit AMD Phenon II 1090 3.2 GHz processor
8 GB DDR3
2 TB HD
1 GB AMD Radeon HD 6770 graphics card
Running an additional 15 TB's on 5 ext HD's

Vegas pro 11 has been like being in a horror movie so far. I tried to render out a Sony MXF file when I first opened it. The MXF render codec appeared then it disappeared. I close the program and it disappeared and then finally the setting appeared again this afternoon. I have no clue why it is doing this!! I'm in the TZ ..lol

I can not get the program to work with red giants magic bullet looks 2.0 without crashing or locking up. I am going to try an re install this afternoon to see if that corrects he problem.

I can not open an existing file created in pro 10 that has a pro titler clip in it without getting an error when I try to edit the pre-existing pro titler clip on the timeline in pro 11.

I tried to render out a mainconcept AVC/mp4 file in the 1080p setting but it crashes.

Those are just the problems so far. It does make it impossible for me to use the program at this time. If anyone has any answers please let me know but I feel the tech team needs to know these issues for the update.

Hi am having the same problem with the main concept avc mp4 codec

everytime i try to render out HD for use on vimeo or you tube

it crashes my graphics card which is a 8800gts

but every other format is fine including sony mxf

The Sony MXF files were driving me crazy. I thought I was going crazy because the codec kept disappearing from the list on renders box then reappearing. That was the weirdest . The pro titler issue from 10 to 11 is another issue. I have a template i use that I created in pro 10 so I could just go into the tool and change the text. Now in 11 it give me an error.

I was using the Sony AVC for youtube up until vegas pro 11. I would how the mainconcept codec will work on youtube.

I did have the render settings for .mxf appear and disappear along with the Sony AVC.

Magic bullet looks 2.0 has been working fine so far.

Did have some problems rendering with mainconcept AVC/mp4 where it would just crash.

Haven't tried to open V10 projects yet.

Will be sticking to V10, but then again no matter how stable V11 would be, I would still be sticking to V10 and gradually move up to V11 starting with small projects.

Rob,

Could you try and open a pro 10 file that the pro titler in use and see if it is working for you in pro 11? From looking at it on my other system (its a little laptop..lol) it is doing the same thing. I just want to confirm it is happening to someone else too.

Yeah I am going to have to stick with 10 for right now until all these problems are wrapped up. It would be a nightmare to have a huge project crash and no way to fix it or have to wait.

By the way I did get Bullet looks 2.0 to work. I re installed and it took care of the problem. I love that you can use it in the 64 bit version :) I was waiting for this even if I can only really use it in 10 right now :)

For me also there are problems with the shutdown of 64-bit Vegas 11pro during rendering, working on the project, and the mere setting of the video plugins. This is done suddenly, as if I closed the Vegas. During idle after about half an hour, it closes itself. It also has a tendency to frequent crashes. Installed a newer driver for the graphics card and it did not help.
VegasVideo 10 pro worked without the slightest interference on the same computer.
Vegas Pro 11 crashed when I open the option in the plug NewBlue FX Cartoonr.
I am offering my computer configuration:

My Vegas Pro 11 (32 bit) gets stuck on "Creating video plug-in factory", but the 64 bit version doesn't. Any ideas? I've uninstalled/ re-installed already!

I think we are just going to have to wait for the first update. I know the guys in Madison are running around like mad trying to get it out for us.

In almost a decade as a Vegas owner, that is one of the most aware, empathetic responses I have ever read on this forum. I hope those guys who "are running around like mad trying to get it out for us" can take the time to read and appreciate your message.

I second/bump that sentiment. It's not easy keeping people happy, let alone cranky editors.

(just be grateful you're not an abandoned FCP editor...I still hear weeping across the hall at work over that)

TLF,
Rather than taking a scattershot at several dozen volunteer beta testers who are regular contributors on this forum (no I'm not one of them), maybe you could contact Sony and ask to become a beta tester yourself, so that you could catch the "issues" that they missed. That way, everyone would benefit . . .

With your insights I'm sure you could be a great addition to the effort. What I suggested is that you could work to become part of the solution.

I'm finding unpredictable and unstable performance of the included NewBlue Titler Pro media generator. ( I have downloaded and installed the latest version).

I first got some sort of resources error report for my GTS450 Video card which crashed out VP11. Then all sorts of problems, mainly not being able to preview on the timeline, titles being created in the NB window. Either they were not being previewed properly or there was no preview at all. Saving, closing and reopening VP11 has so far let me then preview the results. But it feels very unstable.

Hey John, I contacted support at NewBlue and they gave me a more recent version than the public release (it's a logged version, so if I have a crash I'm submitting the log files back to NewBlue to help figure out what the problem(s) is (are)."

I suggest you do the same since two heads are better than one, and ultimately it's in everyone's interest to have stable add-ons and build the support community around Vegas.

OK, will do.

Will a crash report have been automatically generated? If so, where do I find it?

EDIT: Have submitted a ticket to NewBlue.

They send the info of where to find the files with the logged version. In the version I'm using right now I'm finding better stability, but also the fonts are much smoother and (better rasterizing).

If we're really lucky maybe they'll name a bug after us. When I encounter the cutout bug in VP11, I say to myself, "it's doing a Grazie." :-)
