Vegas Pro8 HDV Capture Problem

Vegascat40 wrote on 1/1/2008, 12:03 AM
I have Vegas Pro8 on 2 different computers. I shot some HDV 24p footage on my Canon XH-A1 and tried to capture it in Vegas 8 with the HDV capture utility. It creates a new scene about every second! After 2 or 3 minutes of capture I have like 200 scenes, all very small, When I try to bring the clips into either machine all freezes up and everything crashes. The captured footage is not usable. It does this on both my computers in Vegas Pro 8? I reinstalled Vegas 7 on one of my computers and captured the same footage I shot and everything works fine? I tried capturing some legacy 24p footage I had in Pro 8 also and have the same problem? But all is well in Vegas 7? I am capturing via firewire as I always have. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong with the HDV Capture in Pro 8? Please help. Thank you.

Steve

Vegas capture is known to have some problems with Canon's HDV cameras. I don't know if or why this works in V7 but not in V8. Anyway you could try using the free HDVsplit instead.

Perhaps in Vegas 7 you have Enable HDV scene detection disabled and in Vegas Pro 8 you do not? It's worth a shot. Bring up the HDV Capture utility and select Preferences | General then uncheck Enable HDV scene detection.

Johnny it makes no difference if HDV scene detection is on or off it still behaves sick in PRO 8????????? Thanks for the suggestion though.
