vegas PROGRAM FAULT?

if you set the loop region to one bar with the project tempo set (for example) to 130bpm and then perform an audio mixdown (of any audio--it doesn't matter), now magnify in and you'll notice the new audio part falls a tiny bit short from the grid, not much but enough to cause problems if you want to use this new loop dragged along its track in a song.

this seems to be a problem with all tempos but 125 or 128bpm - those line up exactly.

does anyone know a way around this or why it's happening?
thanks,
john
(the problem also occurs if you set the loop region to different times, frames or whatever - i'm just using measures and beats as an example)

Perhaps "Option > Quantize to Frames" is ON, and your loop bar isn't really lining up with the grid lines (due to the quantization step). Does it still happen if you turn QTF off?

quantizing was off. did you try the example on your system?

I made a loop from 16.1.0 to 17.1.0 and mixed to new.

Both the start and the end were within one sample of the loop start/end.

What were you seeing? Time select the difference and tell me how many samples off it is, please.

just tried it and did a mix to new from 16-17, this time rather than making it shorter it increased the size by about one sample and placed the new part slightly before the loop region. i then repeated the example but this time mixed to new with the loop region set to 1.1.0 - 2.1.0, the new part fell short by about one sample. next i set the region to 2.1.0 - 3.1.0 and this time the new part was one sample short and positioned about half a sample before the region start point.

i know we're talking about very small margin of error but if you try dragging the new part as a loop, after a few bars it becomes quite audible.

the other thing to note is that if you do exactly the same but with the project tempo set to 125 or 128bpm the new part matches exactly the looped region, no matter where they're placed.

please try it and see if you get the same results.
thanks.

So.... you'd like us to render files using fractional samples? <g>

Perhaps use Paste Repeat instead of looping the audio. This should keep the event starts aligned to your musical grid.

fractional samples? perhaps i don't understand - i'm trying to render exactly the same length as the loop region, which in this example is set exactly between 16.0.0 - 17.0.0, and besides - if it works perfectly at a 128bpm why is it not acurate at 130bpm?

(...paste repeat is fine for limited use but not so good when creating a song which involves moving, changing lengths, testing placement and constant rearranging.)

thanks,
john
