Vegas Property Settings Question

Hi Folks,

I've starting using Vegas Studio 7.0 and Architect Studio 4.0 to do some VHS captures to burn to DVD. I use a JVC SVHS and Canopus advc 110.

Here's a question I thought of....

The properties I set for Field Order (Lower first) and Deinterlace Method (None) in Vegas; when does that occur? During the capture or render process?

I would assume during the render process, in which case if I just capture in Vegas and then render/encode in DVD Architect I don't think those settings are being accounted for in Architect. They don't have any settings like that anywhere in Architect - just 4:3/16:9, kbps, and audio ac3 or 5.1.

I wonder if I want to use Archiect's encoding process (because it allows my to define kbps) if I should resave every captured AVI in Vegas first to ensure my Field Order and Deinterlace selections are enforced? I noticed when I resave an AVi in Vegas it actually does say "rendering" for about 20+ minutes even though there's no compression\enconding going on.

Thanks in advance!

Field order/Deinterlace is done during render not capture. But then again, I've never worried about it and left it as is (default).

Since Architect Studio is a separate application from VMS, you have to render your edited input video to another file. Other apps, have disc creation integrated so you don't need the intermediate step (file). However, I like the VMS/AS approach.

Let Studio do it's thing and let it ride, no need to give it thought.

Thanks MSmart.

So, do you think it's OK to do my edits and render to an new AVI in VMS, and then let AS encode to MPEG-2 after my menu creation? As I said initially, I like how AS allows me to maximize my kbps.

Yes.
