VEGAS Sale/Transfer of Licence How-To?

Soniclight wrote on 8/13/2011, 8:45 AM
Someone part of this community has been kind enough to transfer a v10 license to me due to my fiduciary situation (out of courtesy, I will keep the identity and reasons for this generosity anonymous).

My job is to provide that individual the how-to and below are a couple of posts from a previous related thread whereby one goes to My Support here at Sony. Under my closing question on this I've provided a screenshot of what that page and option looks like.

So there isn't a transfer option, per se - I just change the account details (i.e. replace my details with the new owner's details)?

Yep. There is.

Now for my question/follow up on that...

Q:

Apart from the version number (10x in this case) my guess is that I need to provide this individual my info. True/false?

The process of transfer is quite simple. The original 'owner' should notify SCS that they are transferring the software, the serial number for them and to whom it is being transferred.

The transferee should complete registration details, obviously the original serial number will have to be used, then all should be fine.

I have done this several times over the past 18 months and, although the transfer process seems disquietingly easy, this has worked out without problems. The process is as stated to me by SCS.

You should only need to provide your name to the transferer but up to you how much further information you give them. Your registration of the software is between you and SCS.

I've only been on the giving end, never the receiving end. However, i was under the impression that the transfer involves Sony invalidating the original serial number and issuing a new serial to the new owner.

Not always. Even though I transferred the licenses over, I still have a Vegas 6 SN, DVDA 3 SN & two Vegas 4 SN's (one that was mine, then the SN my dad got when it was transferred over).

OK, thanks for replies. I'll pass on the info to said giver. This transfer is another (in this case not-so-tiny) stroke of good fortune in my journey here since 2005 or so. This forum has been a blessing.

Well, as alluded to by your responses, it was a smooth and glitch-less process. And one that occurred over a weekend. From recent and other posts at this forum on Sony customer service response, that's kind of unusual. But it's probably some script or prog that processes such stuff, no flesh-and-blood bipeds involved.

Thanks to all for you support and help.

If you sell a license, do you need to provide discs to the transferee, or can the the recipient simply download the version/build directly from Sony?
BRC wrote on 5/3/2012, 5:06 AM
Maybe it is just my idle curiosity, but, why would you not give the original discs to the transferee of the licence?

Whether the new licence owner wishes to update from the newer downloads is up to them as they can just download from the SCS website. Another factor is that there may also be additional files on the original discs (NetFramework etc) that the tranferee may need which are not necessarily easy to download - or at least find on the internet.

Well, I'm not opposed to it...if I had them.
Like a lot of others, I downloaded most of my purchases.

It might not be practical to send the discs. The person you're transferring to may live a long distance away, and they're going to want to download the latest update anyway. My take on the discs has been that anything needed to get running is available in the download, and pretty much anything on the disc that's not in the download wasn't even worth looking at.

Directly from Sony Creative Software Customer Service:

Hi Mike,

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.

Sony Creative Software does permit transferring your existing software license to a new owner. In order to do so, please provide us with the name and e-mail address of the person receiving your license(s). We will then note both your account and the recipient's account of the transfer and the new owner can proceed with using the software. Note that if you have used that particular version in order to purchase an upgrade, the new owner would not be able to also purchase an upgrade using that serial number.

Yes, the person who you have transferred the license to is more then welcome to download the software from our updates page. Here is the link to our updates: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/updates

If you still have a follow-up question on this particular incident, please feel free to update it. If you have a completely different question, please create a new incident.

Sincerely,

Two discs mailed (post office) in a bubble pac #0 will cost anywhere from $2.12 to $2.80 in the USA. Used to be 83 cents.

Great.
How much do they cost if you don't have'em?
Will Sony send them to you for say, < $3?
...or should you send your outdated ones, if you didn't download?
