Vegas sets something in Windows 11 that causes static in all audio

Maurice-Stribling wrote on 6/27/2022, 3:35 PM

Since installing Vegas rev 17 build 223, every time Vegas boots up something in Windows 11 is changed. From that point on no sound plays correctly on the system. Youtube and other audio apps pay fine until I bring up Vegas - and after that nothing, including Vegas plays correctly. All you hear is static. from the machine. Even the little Windows prompts play static. If I use the Windows audio troubleshooter, it fixes the problem with the message "audio format not set to default."

Any help would be appreciated.

As a follow up, the "fix" only works until I bring Vegas up again, then it resets whatever is causing the static problem. I do suspect I am somehow expecting something beyond my system's capabilities but I have no idea what it is. The audio is RealTek audio.

Do you by any chance have Sound Forge Audio Studio installed as well?
If so, see this comment in the Sound Forge forum. to remove the Magix Low Latency 2016 driver which has been been known to cause white noise, screeching and other noise annoyances in Vegas besides the root cause application (SFAS).

Other than that, try a different audio device type in VP. For instance, if the other apps are using 'Microsoft Sound Mapper', set VP to use the 'Window Classic Wave Driver' in "Options> Preferences> Audio Devices". If you need an ASIO audio device type, try ASIO-4-ALL

Thank you rraud! I did install Sound Forge with my Vegas. It did install the Magix Low Latency 2016 drivers. I did remove them and I the problem is resolved! RealTek ASIO was there to pick up the duties and is doing the job. I really appreciate this!
