vegas settings for youtube has changed

Ace Fortune wrote on 2/12/2009, 6:21 AM
Hello! For the past year, I have uploaded my youtube videos at 640x360 wmv and I always had the high quality feature, that when clicked, plays the video in a higher quality, but now that feature is gone on my videos. I have been using the same exact settings I always use. I came across more youtube members that use sony vegas, and they're having the same problems as me. It seems like it's just happening with vegas users. Does anyone know how I could fix this, or get around it another way? Thanks for the help!

Try the settings Jonathan Neal posted in the OT: My Youtube / Facebook Settings thread and see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply and for the link! I use sony vegas 4, and I don't think it has MainConcept mp4. And he also says that for widescreen, do a custom frame size of 870x480, but when I type that frame size in, it doesn't keep the 870 as the frame size. It changes when I click off of frame size. I'm really puzzled.

You're correct that Vegas 4 doesn't have the mp4 option which means that you can't do anything he recommends in the post :-(
I don't do any YouTube stuff myself so I can't offer any suggestions.

Thanks for replying! Is there anyway that I can get MainConcept mp4 and use it with vegas 4? Even if I did have it, I don't know if it would bring back the high quality feature. Here's what youtube says about the high quality feature:

-------------------------------------------------

All you need to do is continue uploading the highest quality video you have available. The quality of the uploaded video combined with individual viewers' bandwidth will determine if the video is displayed at "Higher Quality."

Not satisfied with that answer? Still need specific information? YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats such as .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG. Here are a few things that may work well for you:

* MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
* MP3 audio
* Video resolution: 480x360 or higher
* Frame Rate: 24fps or higher
---------------------------------------------------------------

I do all those settings, except I use wmv, but they state that they except that format, and it still doesn't have the high quality feature. It stopped having that feature on my videos a couple weeks ago. All my old videos still have it though.

I emailed youtube today and they said that their engineer team has made changes. I think the problem is that I'm rendering it as a wmv. I want to try and render it as mp4, but I use vegas 4 and it doesn't have MainConcept. I want to download a trial version of vegas 8 pro, but you're supposed to have 1 GB of ram for system requirements. I have 512 MB of ram. Will my computer still download it and run it? I know I won't be able to burn blu-rays or anything, I just want to be able to render to mpg4 and upload a standard def widescreen video to youtube. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you can use Super to convert tp mp4.

but I upload with WMV all the time. But you're right. The WMV I uploaded a few days ago doesn't have the HQ option, but one I did a few weeks ago does, same template in Vegas (3mbs WMV).

Well soon I'm going to get the upgrade to vegas 8 pro, but I just want to download the trial version to see how it works. Do you think my computer can handle it, since it has only 512 mb ram and vegas requires 1 gb of ram? I won't be editing hd or anything. Thanks!
