Interesting that going to Sony.com and then winding through the drop-down menus, you can get to a page to order Vegas 5. On the broadcast/professional side of things . . .

Yes you can link to the pro side of Sony at: http://bssc.sel.sony.com/BroadcastandBusiness/markets/10011/market_10011.shtml
But to get there, you must really search for the link.

If you use the drop down menu you go to the sonymediasoftware.com area.

The question, is it sold on the consumer side for more exposure or is it the future direction/indicator of Vegas going to a consumer app.?

i belive any video software under $1k is sold under consumer too. B&H sells Vegas, Premiere & FCP under both, along with some cheaper products.

In general I find the Sony website tedious and non-intuitive to navigate, so that in itself doesn't say anything directly about their products.
Vegas being sold in consumer space isn't itself a problem (particularly when FCP etc are also there) but the style of its promotion is important. I've not seen Vegas advertised in the professional production mags, but certainly FCP is. I said in that other thread that Sony regarding the product as a consumer application is a problem because it affects support and development. Most consumers don't want the sophistication that Vegas offers and anyway aren't prepared to work around those troublesome characteristics that we deal with on this forum.

I was being sarcastic in my prior post, after all one of my constant whinges has been Sony giving away PP LE on their VAIOs. For those of us down under the latest Sony cattle dog (Pulse) lists Vegas! So you'll be able to buy it from a Sony shop.
