Vegas struggling/locking up importing HD -advice?!

In an earlier post Mike (rs170a) mentioned that my computer may struggle when I attempt to import clips shot with my new Handycam 1080 Full HD - My system is new with 2.2 Ghz Intel Duo processor and 1G RAM.

I am really having problems - it seems that Vegas is locking up at least 50% of the time. It took me almost 2 hours to import 7 clips totalling 4 minutes this morning because I had to constantly shut down Vegas and sometimes reboot the PC.

Thanks for any advice!

There's not much more to add here to what rs told you. Vegas is struggling because the system you're running it on just isn't pulling the load. You need to increase your memory at minimum. AVCHD comes close to the hardest format to work with and you need a good system. Either that or LOTS of patience and time.

To top it all off.... you say "new" system... does that mean you're running Vista as well? Because Vista eats even more memory than XP does..... and you're already quite shy on memory.

What you could try is download the free 30 day trial of Ulead Video Studio 11 and give that a shot. It's a bit of a baby toy compared to Vegas, but it's built to run on less expensive, more limited systems

Just turn OFF thumbnails and waveforms.
That's what gobbles up way too many resources.

Memory is cheap. I just order 2 GB this morning to max out the memory on my new Quad Core. Kingston memory matching the HP factory installed only cost $30/GB.

Download the manual for your software and search on "core" for details on using a multicore processor.

Remove shovelware

Turn OFF Antivirus while stressing the CPU.
