Vegas Studio Platinum 9.0b crashes while rendering

I just purchased Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b (build 92)
While rendering files as .mt2s Sony AVC files the program crashes every time. What the hell.

my sys:
windows vista home premium (64 bit) service pack 1
intel core i7 2.93 ghz
8 gb ram
and a hd ATI 4800 video card
This system should be more than capable of rendering a small video project in HD.

Any suggestions or links?

I found this on here somewhere and it seemed to work a little but program still crashes.

1) End any applications or background processes that may be running during the render (this includes anti-virus, anti-spyware, screensaver, registry cleaner, etc.)
2) In Vegas Movie Studio Platinum, go to Options> Preferences> Video.
-- Reduce the Dynamic RAM preview max to 24
-- Reduce the Maximum number of rendering threads to 1
--exit the program
--re-enter the program and check thtat these settings are still there
--make the preview window as low as quality and small as possible.

try to render agian, but it still probally wont work.

this works perfect so far
here is where i found the info:
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=650217

go to www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php and dowload the program

Install the program

open the program...
goto file \ open
then find the file... in this case it would be Vegas.exe
or (VegasMovieStudioPE90.exe)
On the left side you'll see "NT HEADER".... "DOS HEADER"... etc
Highlight "FILE HEADER" under "NT HEADER"
On the right side you'll see a chart and in the bottom right corner you will see "CLICK HERE"
Click on that and a check box menu system will open.
Scroll down the menu list until you see "app can handle > than 2gig address space"
and check mark that box.
Save the file and close.

Open the others and do the same with these files:
vegas80.exe
m2tsplug.dll
mcstdh264dec.dll
sonymvd2pro_xp.dll

all of these are in the ..
c:/program files / sony / Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0......folder
and
....sony / Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0 / FileIO Plug-Ins / m2tsplug....... folder

Even though you already found a solution, I thought I would experiment and see if I could re-create your crash since my setup is similar to yours. I selected .mt2s and the 1920x1080ix60 template for my render. It did NOT crash... so could you have something else going on?

You shouldn't have to jump through all those hoops. I've spent about 70 hours with Vegas on my new computer have not encountered one crash or glitch. It's been rock steady.

I use all four rendering threads and it took about 10 minutes to render a 3.5-minute video into a 260MB .avc file using above settings. I have:

Platinum 9.0b (build 92)
Core i7 920
Vista Home Premium 64-bit
6GB ram
ATI Radeon HD4670

wisd:

You should be glad you're not crashing, as you will find if you peruse this, and many other video forums, that this is a very common problem people encountered, on a wide variety of hardware and software platforms.

We all completely agree that people "shouldn't have to jump through all these hoops" and yet that in fact is necessary for many of us. Sony has got to be aware of this problem, but it is now probably 8+ months or more since it has been reported here, and no fix or patch is forthcoming.

Many people have abandoned Sony in disgust, and who can blame them?

So the bottom line is that no, we are not doing something wrong that accounts for it crashing for so many of us. It's probably some combination of hardware and software that conflicts with something Vegas is doing. But thanks to Bigbarney (blink3times), a fix can be applied that seems to work for many/most of those experiencing the crashes Vegas has when rendering .m2ts.

DLCPhoto,
I'll consider myselfy lucky, then, that I haven't encountered the crashing you describe. I've only had Vegas a month now and just started reading this forum... so I was not aware of the history you describe. Does this have anything to do with Sony not supporting Vegas on 64-bit systems?

I'm not a power user and have just moderate experience with other editing software, but with my Vista 64-bit sytem Vegas runs great -- right out of the box. I've been very impressed. Sorry to hear the pain of others, though.

Definitely lucky, wjsd. It's hard to tell how common the complaint is, since the forum posts will obviously have a bias towards those with problems, but it does seem to effect a lot.

And I wondered too about the Vista 64-bit issue, since that's what I'm running as well. I wasn't sure if my particular problems related to Vista 64-bit, but based on your fortunate experience, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Since the fix that's available is so easy to apply, you'd think that Sony could take care of it themselves. Really very frustrating, and ultimately counter-productive for Sony, as they'll end up with a significant number of unhappy campers!

But like you, now that things are running smoothly, I'm pretty impressed with this app. My needs just aren't sufficient to pay the big bucks for the Pro version, so this is working out quite well for me.

Will this work for crashes in the system even before rendering? I am so confused about all of this! I had no problems with my digital 8 camcorder and Sony Vegas 6 version on my desktop XP. Now I have a Sony hard drive camcorder (not even High Definition) and am using a new laptop from Dell core duo processor 2.53GHZ, 4GB RAM, 500GB hard drive but VISTA 64 bit and I can't keep my project up and running. The worst is, I haven't even started my project but am still just adding video clips to my project media! After reading some of this, it sounds like the Vegas software is not fully utilizing the amount of memory available?

HELP! :)
