what do you guys thing of vegas' summing? how do you guys typically mix down your multitrack projects? do you play the tracks out through a board or just render in vegas?
I do a combination of both. Once I've committed to something, I'll usually render some submixes in Vegas to simplfy mixing. Typically I use 8 busses in Vegas routing the 16 channels through Layla's into a 32/8 bus console. I do this primarily to use outboard verbs and efx, and I'm one who still needs to have my hands involved in something other than the mouse. ;-)
I do a similar thing as drbam. I do submixes in Vegas. My sound card has 20 outputs which act as sub mix buses and connect to my mixing board, which then connects to my external fx's. The digital outs of my mixer then connect to my Dat recorder and my spdif sound card input. So when the mix is done it get's recorded to DAT and 2 new stereo tracks within Vegas. I'm hoping some day Vegas will support external midi hardware controlers, because my mixer has a midi remote function where I can use all the faders as midi faders to control software apps. That way I could use my mixer for the submixes in Veas and stop f*@king....I mean mousing around.
I do all my mixing in Vegas. I like to mix multiple songs over several weeks depending on my mood and how a song is sitting and being able to perfectly recalling a mix in progress works great for me.
I'm one of those odd folks who don't mind "mouse mixing". Actually prefer the control it gives me.
