Vegas Techniques I Always Forget

CClub wrote on 6/19/2008, 7:26 PM
There are a thousand small little pieces of info that are helpful when using Vegas, and I ended up typing up a list of little things that I always forget but need every now and then. Here is the list of http://www.refproductions.com/Misc/Techniques.docVegas Techniques I Always Forget[/link]. Many may not be things you need but some may and the format may help. I update it every once in a while with little tidbits I pick up on this forum, print it out, and I have it taped to the bottom of my monitor. I forgot to delete the Shuttlepro icon before uploading... you can just delete that as my settings there aren't of much use to anyone else.

This is a wonderful start to something that was requested and discussed about four years back, if I remember correctly.

Keep it up, I have downloaded your Word .doc and will await any updates. This really needs to go somewhere on the SCS site, in my opinion.

MusicVid,
I was hoping nobody asked for my primary editing list. It's probably full of many mistakes and stupid ideas and references to plugins/programs not everyone may use, but here it is: http://www.refproductions.com/Misc/VegasEdit.docEditing[/link]. Inside it is the one page "Vegas Techniques I Always Forget" that I just posted.

If you use ShuttlePro, I added a blank ShuttlePro template at the end of the document... if anyone wants to add their own ShuttlePro settings to the "Techniques" page, here's a link to the http://www.refproductions.com/Misc/ShuttlePro.pdfShuttlePro[/link] pdf where you can edit your own changes. After you make changes to the pdf, just export as a TIFF, and then import to the Word document where you'd like it to go.

I'm sure the forum administrators have enough to do updating Vegas and DVDA with all the changes we're asking for (!!!), so if someone can figure out an easy way to gather additional info for this summary, I'm game with doing the updating.

Maybe you can help me with one that I accidentally came across. I fumbled some buttons one day and all of the sudden the names for each file were displayed right on them on the timeline. When i time stretched files, there would also be a marker on them that said exactly how much stretch was put on them. Then, of course, I must have pressed the same combo of buttons and it just went away!
Anyone know?

Goodtimej,
If I'm understanding you correctly, it's one of the "Techniques" I listed in the 2nd column: "To Show Clip Name: click View, Active Take Info." I don't know about the time stretch component.

With Active Take Info turned on, the percent speed change (playback rate speed/CTRL Resize speed change) will be shown on the AUDIO.

Thanks for providing this. It's especially helpful for someone who's relatively new to Vegas.

BTW - My 15 year old son edited his first video on Vegas. He had very, very little help from me and yet he was able to create an excellent video.
