Vegas to Flash ?

1. A potential client wants a 2 minute video in the Flash format, but I edit with Vegas and was wondering what is required (software, hardware) to convert it to Flash?

2. Would I need a lot of technical knowledge, or is it fairly straightforward?

3. What format should I render the video in with Vegas, before converting to Flash?

4. Will the quallity suffer after converting?

Just read the post going from Flash to Vegas, so I have an inkling of what might be involved, but that's about it. For anyone who can answer anyone of the above questions, no need to repeat my question - just put the number that it is and I'll know which one you're replying to. Hopefully this will save some time - and typing :-)

thanks.

Hello oops.

I use Flix Pro by wildform. I think I paid $149.00 for the
program. The quality is very good. Just go to my website
at www.videolistings.ca to view.

Render your project to mpeg2. Open the Flix Pro program
and input the .mpeg2 rendered file and the program does
the conversion.

Hope this helps, I can't wait for Vegas to be able to do this!
This would save me an extra step and 1/2 hour!

Thanks for the info. I checked out the product on the web. Did you order it directly from them or is there a place in TO where I could buy it, as I see from your website that you're in my area? Did it take long to get it from time of odering?

A couple more questions:

1. What is advantage of Flash over wmv for web streaming? I know about vector-based, etc., but why is it generally preferred by some clients.

2. After I convert the veg. file to Flash with Flix Pro, will I be able to burn it to a DVD that I can give to the client to put up on their website and have it be good qualilty? They want 500 x 300 pixels max. (although I thought Flash was not pixel-based).

3. Would it be better to email them the file (ie. better quality than burning to DVD)?

4. Do you always edit with Vegas and then encode to Flash or can you also edit directly with Flash?

sorry, but I'm not a techi - so questions may be pretty lame sounding.

your help - or anyone - much appreciated.

I DOWNLOADED THE PRODUCT FROM THIER SITE USING MY VISA.

1. What is advantage of Flash over wmv for web streaming? I know about vector-based, etc., but why is it generally preferred by some clients.

FLASH WILL PLAY ON 98% OF THE COMPUTERS OUT THERE. MAC, PC
ETC.ETC. WHEN I FIRST STARTED DOING MY BUSINESS I USED WMV AND
ENCOUNTERED LOTS OF PROBLEMS. NOT ANY MORE.

2. After I convert the veg. file to Flash with Flix Pro, will I be able to burn it to a DVD that I can give to the client to put up on their website and have it be good qualilty? They want 500 x 300 pixels max. (although I thought Flash was not pixel-based).

FIRST YOU HAVE TO RENDER THE .VEG FILE TO .MPEG2 IN VEGAS. THEN IMPORT THE .MPEG2 FILE INTO FLIX PRO TO CONVERT IT TO FLASH.

I AM NOT SURE ABOUT BURNING IT TO DVD, YOU SHOULD BURN THE .MPEG2 FILE TO DVD INSTEAD, NOT THE .SWF (FLASH)

WHEN I PRODUCE A VIDEOTOUR I END UP WITH 2 RENDERED VIDEO FILES
(.MPEG2 AND .SWF) THE .MPEG2 I BURN TO DVD AND THE .SWF I PLACE ON WEB.

3. Would it be better to email them the file (ie. better quality than burning to DVD)?

THE FILE IS TOO BIG TO EMAIL, NOT AN OPTION. YOU CAN HOWEVER UPLOAD IT TO YOUR WEBSITE USING FTP AND ALLOW THE CLIENT TO DOWNLOAD.

4. Do you always edit with Vegas and then encode to Flash or can you also edit directly with Flash.

ALWAYS VEGAS.

I Forgot to mention, with Vegas 6 coming out soon, I would wait and see
if they include a render to flash. Myself and others have posted on this forum
for Sony to include this in the next update. I understand that Sony's
other product has this capability. I can't remember what the product is called.

Everyone seems to be missing that with Flix you can use a DV file not an MPEG2 to cross it over.

More important, Macromedia has the Flash exporter for FLash that uses QT to transcode. They also have the Macormedia Video Kit $99 that trancode and gets it ready to go to the web.

Your clients maybe asking for the video in Flash format because of compatability or becuase they are going to integrate it into a Flash website. You can do a lot of sweet things with Flash Video in a Flash site.

Thanks for all the info. I have Macromedia, so will look into the video kit you mention. Does that mean I wouldn't need Flix Pro at all?

Another package you can check out is SwishVideo, made by the same people who do Swishmax. I'm using it right now to put video from Vegas on the web and it's doing a fantastic job! You can find it at:

http://www.swishzone.com/index.php?area=products&product=video

I picked up the Swishmax, SwishVideo, SwishStudio bundle for $159. An excellent value IMHO. It exports .SWF as well as .FLV formats. I purchased the Flash Video Kit from Macromedia and was extremely disappointed to find out the Lite version of Sorenson Squeeze it ships with doesn't allow you to specify the size of the output. You can only use their presets. This was a killer for me. I went looking for another solution and found SwishVideo. They have a fully functional demo too!
