Looks like there's a major FCP issue with the EX1. Switching the camera into Time Of Day timecode makes the clips unreadable by FCP. Not to worry Vegas will handle this. But then what?
The most fool proof way I could get the footage back out would be on tape. Seeing as how this is HQ (1920x1080) the obvious choice is HDCAM SR. Client has or can get all the kit, plenty of HDCAM SR decks, monster 8 core Mac systems that could be booted into XP and Vegas 8 loaded. AJA / BMD hardware at the ready. We'd pony up for a Multibridge Eclipse if they haven't got one just to get this to fly, we'll need Dual Link SDI anyway for something else.
Only damn problem is....Vegas Pro 8 isn't Direct Show so no go. GREAT.
OK, give up on using BMD, anyone know if the ioHD box from AJA would work with Vegas, I suspect not.
Final hope. Render out of Vegas to a codec that FCP can read. Anyone got any suggestions, I need a QT codec that's 1920x1080. File size shouldn't be an issue, we have / can find as many TBs of storage as needed. All I'll need is MacDrive so I can mount a HFS volume.
I'd give all this a go before even asking however I've been down this path before in SD, all FCP read was black frame thanks to a KNOWN bug in Vegas that left me and Vegas looking stupid in front of a major client.
Any thoughts, suggestions or first hand experiences appreciated.
Bob.
