I am searching for a good training center on the East Coast to learn Vegas 5. I have several books, the software, and an above average technical knowledge. However, I have short time to learn much about the application and feel that a good hands-on training program would help me.
Dont know of any training centers but you could pick up Gary Kleiners or Spots DVD training series which just like a training center. Plus you can watch them over and over for less than it would cost for a one time classroom experience.
Future Media Concepts has Sony listed on their webpage and I think they have something going on at NAB. So my assumption is the day Sony releases Vegas 6 Future Media Concepts announcing training for it. FMC has classrooms in NYC and lots of other cities.

Actually, FMC offers training for Sony Xpri. They currently contract VASST to do their Vegas 5 (and 6) training, which is why we have so many Vegas-related sessions at NAB this year.
Unless you can get one on one training classes typically go at the pace of the slowest student. Been there done that too... as the teacher in corporate setting. Funny, having the top executives and the CEO in one class was a real experience. Sir, sir, excuse me, DON'T do that. What, you did already, well sure its ok... we don't mind starting over, so what if its the third time already.
Laughed out loud at that one Billyboy ("Sir, sir...wait")... same thing with my principal. I was teaching a Photoshop class and the principal kept going ahead because he "knew" how to do it (a long time ago) ...like 4 versions ago! everything was different and he felt he had to be the top dog in every setting. Like the manager in the TV show "The Office"...
Back on topic, I highly recommend a DVD especially for beginners. Gary Kleiner's or Douglas Spotted Eagle's DVD's are amazing- especially to get you off the ground. They'll take you zero to sixty in a short time.
Training a boss is always hard. I can remember when I was working at the bottling plant when we got a extra large shipment of brandy in. Had no place to put it. The feds are very fussy because of the large tax amount involved that you keep the product that already had the tax stamps on it seperate from stuff that didn't. You had to keep in a special area that was surrounded with chain link fence. Well we had a few thousand cases too much to fit it the chained in area. So we had to hide it. So the boss gathers everybody together and tells them whatever you do keep the federal inspector out of aisle 24. So the boss and the inspector go out to lunch. That in itself was a no-no but they were friends and did it all the time. Couple hours later they come back from lunch plastered as usual. What aisle does the boss stroll down with the inspector on the way back to his office? Why asile 24 of course. Both had too much to drink to notice. That new show the Office reminds of that boss.
Thanks for the input. I might just do alot of hands on stuff to learn the application more thoroughly. As I take your comments, this seems to be the best way to go.
There used to be a tutorial which guided you through all the most useful topics about Vegas. Included with VV3 in fact. I wonder where we could find it now.
At the end of this 2 hour hands on tut' , one would be able to cut someting really decent. Not the most efficient way, but, still, he would be able to do so.
Just 2 hours, can you imagine that ?
There must be a way to find it and bring it back on the front. So many people are asking now about simply "getting in".
Ok now, I went into my old boxes in the back of the house and found it.
If there is some place where I could upload a PDF file (the VV3 manual) plus media files, everything would be SET once and for all so newcomers could have a starting point.
