Dear Group,

I have some really great advance news that I would like to share with you - regarding Vegas and Vegas Group Activities at NAB.

First, I would like to say that I am proud to be a Loyal Vegas User and Supporter. And, I am also very proud of Sony Pictures Digital for Their committment to Vegas and the Product Line.

This year at NAB is going to be Extra Special for Vegas Users - Sony, is showing It's Support and Appreciation to Vegas Users by Hosting a Vegas Users Informal Meeting and Gettogether at the Paris Hotel on Monday Night April 19th from 7:30 to 9:30. There will be Coctails, Hors D'oeures and Great Vegas Conversation.

Everyone, will have a chance to meet Sony Electronics and Sony Pictures Digital Management Teams, including Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Training and Engineering Personnel.

Expect the formal announcement and rsvp info from Sony, shortly.

The Vegas Presentation Area on the Exhibit Show Floor is going to blow everyone's expectations away. Sony, is going all out to show off Vegas 5 and DVDA2. You can expect a very interactive and hands on learning experience.

I am glad to have had a small part in making this happen, for all of us. And, I am ecstatic with the marketing direction that Sony Pictures Digital is Taking!

Maybe, I shouldn't have released this terrific info about the future direction of Vegas - until the fascination with Zippy, died down.

There is so much more to tell you guys - but, unfortunitly there doesn't appear to be much interest.

Much hard work and perserverance has gone into this by people who care about the success of Vegas.

No interest ? I'm sure there is a great deal of interest.

Unfortunately not everyone can go to NAB

The real message is not just the NAB Party - But Sonys, committment to the future marketing of Vegas to the Professionals. This is a bold step forward from all previous NAB's and Exhibitions.

We're all there in spirit, regardless of whether a budget or schedule permits attending NAB. I am holding back post-production of my own feature waiting for the next Vegas.

Of course there's interest, I just think most people aren't going to NAB. I will be there, and think its great that there will be a big display at the Sony booth for Vegas. This is in contrast to recent years where Sonic Foundry didnt even have a booth because of thier tight budget before Sony bailed them out.

But you can't hold the details back on us! If you know more, tell us what you can!

Are you kidding? After all the ground breaking features in Vegas 4b - I'm salivating for Vegas 5. It's driving me insane that I can't see it yet. I'm sure every one here has clicked this thread Jay.

Sorry if I spoiled your announcement but what do you want - handsprings? Did you really think the users on this forum were the type that get all excited about "marketing efforts"? I'm here because of the product. There's nothing in your "Exciting news" about the product - so I was really disappointed. Sorry. But be assured I'll show my interest and excitement by laying down the plastic the minute Vegas 5 is available.

Can I add a few observations from accross the Pacific?
I'm not going to NAB as I have to mind the shop while the rest of the crew do go. I did make it to IBC last year where Vegas was conspicuos only by its absense at the Sony stand.
I know NAB is THE event however it's largely targeted at the NTSC market. Sure almost all things are avialable in PAL as well BUT...
The worlds two largest markets (India and China) are PAL!
A very wise marketing move, target those two markets. I'm not being flippant here. They are both developing insatiable appetites for content and content needs editing. They are almost exclusively PC based markets as well. Find a decent NLE that works the way they like things done, with manuals in their language and marketed by local people and you're on a winner. I'd even suggest do this at the expense of the US market, it's already saturated with NLEs.
Yes I know both those markets are notorious for software piracy but Bill was being wise when he said 'If they're going to pirate anyones sofatware I'd rather it's ours'.

Jay - please don't take the number of responses to reflect the amount of interest in your post - I'm sure many like me are speechlessly salivating!

There's not much else we can do except enjoy the last couple of weeks of anticipation ...

Sorry for the lack of enthusiasm, excited but yet am going to have to wait no matter how soon it comes out. No cash, no upgrade.

After seeing some of your work (the music vid and the Valentine's day thingy) I'm surprised you're not loaded with cash Ray. Surely there's a big enough market in Austin for someone like you. If you don't mind me saying so, maybe you need to get some demos out there bud.

OK everybody. What we need now is a single adress where you all could send actual pictures of NAB and what's interesting over there!
Please!

Amen to that, lets figure something out.

I was completely planning on getting to NAB. Due to some very unfortunate circumstances, I now will not be able to attend. So I'm hoping Spot or Jay or someone with a laptop will be able to give us nightly updates on Vegas/Sony/HDV and other kinds of things we-who-can't-attend want to hear about.
Looking forward to new news!

g_randybrown, I would have emailed ya to keep this on topic but couldn't find an email addy on your site. Sorry to the rest. Just was going to say that while I feel like I'm not to shabby, marketing is a whole nother matter and not my area of specialty. People can't hire ya if they don't know who you are. While I do all I can to try to get my name out there, apparently I'm not doing enough or barking up the wrong tree. Hopefully my day will come, but these days it's rough at best. I'm full time with Underground Planet, but not sure how long I can keep it going.

Anyway, that's the sitch. Thanks for the props though, makes me believe I'm on the right track regardless of the lack of cash.

Here is some more info on what to expect from Sony Vegas at NAB.

There will be a Special Vegas 5 and DVD Architect 2 Classroom - just across from the Sony Booth. The Classroom will have 20 seats with Sony Vaio Laptops - loaded with Vegas 5 and DVDA2.

There will be (8) 45 minute sessions of hands on Vegas 5 and DVDA2 Training and Feature Familiarization on each of the days of NAB.

The seats will be on a first come first served basis. This should be very popular with Vegas Users and Newcomers.

I am not auhorized to give out the specifics of Vegas 5 Features, yet. But, I am authorized by Sony to give you guys a heads up on what to expect, while there!

I would like to recommend to everyone that you consider joining the Southern California Vegas Group. There are special benefits and discounts that may be available to our members. You do not have to live in Southern California to participate or become a member.

Based on your Aloha are you a user in Honolulu? I am researching about Vegas and I would like to chat with someone using the program.
