Hey Guys . .. just noticed something. Once I've "pre-rendered" an area on the t/l AND I also ask for a RAM preview build, Veags USES BOTH the pre-render and RAM build win the Preview .. neat eh? . .But I gues y'all knew that already . .uhuh! Thought so . . ..
. .I suppose what I'm saying is that Vegas HAS the ability to mix in stuff for Previews . . IMHO we are almost there with a real time option . . I can feel it in my water . . . just seems to be just around the corner all the time . . .
I would be happy if Vegas would just use the pre-rendered video when rendering to MPEG2. It makes no sense to me to pre-render all that video to print-to-tape only to have Vegas recalculate all the changes again when it renders to another format like MPEG2. This would be a great time-saving option for Vegas 5 or 6.
I started editing when I was 17, that was with Vegas Video 2.0...
I am now 20 and Vegas 5.0 will be out in around one month...
So I guess you might see Version 7.. 8... 9 earlier than you might think..

You answered your own question. It's a different format, therefore another render is required. You wouldn't want Vegas to pass precompressed DV frames to your MPEG2 encoder would you? You would be losing color information.

Yes I would. Since the rest of my footage is already DV I don’t see how that makes a difference. DV to MPEG2 is DV to MPEG2. Isn’t the color information already lost? I would like an option that takes any pre-rendered files that are in the project format and treat them as though they were on the timeline for the purpose of rendering to a new format. But that’s just me. Others can choose to leave this option off. I’m just trying to avoid rendering the whole thing to AVI just to make multiple encodings go faster which is what I do now if I have to encode in several formats.
I'd personally like to see an automatic pre-render similar to (gasp) i-movie. I was amazed at the amount of time I saved with that going on in the background. Of course, I would want to be able to turn it off when doing the complicated stuff, too.
