Vegas v.6 no capture,but v.4 works

I have Vegas 4, updated to Vegas 6, but kept v.4 working. This v.4 works perfect, but v.6 cannot capture: when in Project Media I click "capture video" from the file menu, a new empty "untitled" Vegas window opens. Same when I click the "capture video" icon, each time I click, a new empty Vegas opens (at the bottom of screen I get a whole serie of "untitled-Sony Vegas.."
The record icon (Ctr+R) stays black, if I click, only the sound is opening on the timeline. How come v4 works, and v6 refuses?
Funny is,when I connect camera for capture, I hear the usual "ping", but simultaneously Vegas again opens an untitledwindow, so encreasing the row of "untitled"Vegas windows at the bottom of the at the bottom of the screen. Who solves this mysterious problem ?

In Vegas 4, there is no External or Internal capture app. With Vegas 6, you have two capture app choices.
Internal for HDV and uncompressed
External for DV.
Be sure you're capturing with the External app. You can set this choice in Preferences.

DSE, appreciate your quick reaction, but in options>preferences>video the choice "use external video capture application" is marked. The line below refers to C\program files\..Vegas 6.0.exe.
Maybe there is something wrong in the choice of "external video capture"? that is, IF there are differend choices.
Hope to hear from you, with repeated thanks
-I use normal DV, not HDV (yet)

Also make sure you're on Vegas 6.0d.

no doubt the upgrade (I had v.6.0b) was useful, but unfortunately did not solve my problem: v.6.0d stubbornly opens a new Vegas windows as soon as I touch any "capture video" command, and still I am faced with an impressing series Vegas windows "untitled" at the bottom of the screen.
The only difference I saw between 60b and 60d is that, opening 60d for the first time, I was requested to let Vegas update the default window from 60b to 60d. I doubt this needed so much as the111 Mbite of the download of the upgrade ... so what ?
thanks anyway, hoping Sony jumps in to give adequate support.

When you go to Options - Preferences to the video tab, does the path entered end with VidCap60.exe and the "Use external video capture application" checkbox IS checked?

Note that you can also run the external capture program without starting Vegas by merely creating a shortcut to VidCap60.exe. It starts up immediately (unlike Vegas which has to load and initialize lots of data/processes).

JETDV you are an angel !
"use external video capture application" was checked, but VidCap60.exe was not the path I had. Putting this path is the solution. Capture now works perfectly. If I was a Casino, you hit the Jackpot. I am no casino, so you will have to do with my immense thanks !
Funny: I also got direct support from Sony, who advised me to delete all Sony programs from my computer, a FULL PAGE of sensitive instructions, going into the Registry , deleting this and keeping that: I would not dare to execute.
You solve it in one line! Congratulations !

Tech Diver: also thanks to you. You will read that jetdv gave me the solution, but you reply contains a lot of ideas to go on.
Thank you from Belgium, wherever you are.
