The latest versions are Vegas Movie Studio 8 and Vegas 7. Vegas Professional 8 hasn't been released yet. Is your version 6 the Studio version or the full version? if it's the full version then you'll probably wanna wait for Vegas Pro 8 because moving to the studio version would be a step down in several areas.

Hi,

thank you for your response.

I have just upgraded in the past week to Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8.0. and am happy with it, but I only just received an upgrade option to Vegas Pro 8 and am dispointed that I didn't have that option before.

Can you tell me if Platinum or Pro give you the ability to copyright your DVD so that people can not copy the DVD? I edit and creat Showreels for clients.
Also can you tell me if it is worth upgrading to Vegas Pro, do you know if I can get the difference of the cost or will I have to pay the full amount? (not sure if you can answer the last question)

thanks

Well, i did suggest you wait until now before making the decision. ;) But ... anyway ...

There is absolute no way ever to copyprotect a DVD. It simply cannot be done. Don't even bother worrying about. Even Hollywood producers can't do this. Sure, there's lots of talk about encryption and macrovision, but none of it works. The only way to make sure that your work is never copied is to never release it to begin with.

As far as upgrading to Vegas Pro, here's a comparison of the features: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/product.asp?PID=457&PageID=110

My guess is that since you purchased Platinum 8 so recently, a quick call to Customer Support could get you a 'trade up' to Pro 8 for the difference in price. I won't guarantee it since it's up to them to decide, but i do see reports from other forum users saying they've had success with this.
