Vegas Video 3.0c "flashy" video problem

Hi, I just downloaded the Vegas Video 3.0c and the tutorials to give it a try, when I loaded the tutorials, I found that when playing back, the monitor video will be kinda "flashy".. any idea why is that? My computer hardware are below:

Pentium 700mhz dual CPU
Tyan Tiger 100 motherboard (dual PIII motherboard)
384MB of RAM
Video card: nVIDIA GeForce4 460MX with 64MB of RAM, running at AGP 2X
Pinnacle IEEE 1394 card
OS: Windows XP Pro with the latest patches/updates.. also the latest video driver from nVIDIA.COM

...
I don't have any problem to run Adobe Premiere 6.5 on my PC, but when I run VV3, the video on the computer monitor become very flashy.. Is this related to my video card or the video card driver??
thanks!

My monitor video is flashy too. I 'm pretty sure it wasn't like that in earlier vv versions. On the preview window (the monitor video window) set the quality to best quality instead of "preview" quality and the flashing kind of goes away, but not totally. However vv will have trouble keeping up with the transitions at "best" quality. I have 700 mhz PIII, and around 350mb memory, and Diamond Stealth III s540 video card. Maybe we just need more powerful systems.

I think ted is right abount needing more horsepower. I brought home a project started on a P4 1.8 ghz/1.5 gig RAM & 10,000 RPM SCSI drives (work PC) and am editing it with my humble Athlon 1.2 ghz/1 gig RAM & Maxtor 7200 rpm Firewire drive. There is a major difference in playback and I keep stalling out in some clips. I've actually resorted to splitting the bigger ones up into new files!

Hi All,

I'm no hardware guru, but...

Users with slower processors aren't reporting display issues. What *has* been reported are issues related to hardware accelleration in the display card, and issues with Radeon drivers.

You might try variations in display settings and HW accel.

PIII866, 384ram, nvidiaGforce2, WinME, no display issues- VV3c or earlier versions.

Thanks! Since I do have a Raedon card, which settings should I be adjusting? If there is a link I sure would appreciate you posting it.

Hi pb,

I seem to recall the issue was about the 8500 2.2 drivers... the 2.3 are reputed to fix things up.

A search for 8500 posts should reveal more.

As for settings (Radeon aside), display Hardware Accelleration switching lower or off has helped some users, particularly those crashing while using the text generator.

This business about acceleration caused me such problems in the beginning, before you kind fellows shed light on the problem for me, that I now have it written into my "check list" of things to do when using VV. Unfortunately, some other programs REQUIRE it (including another video program), so, I have this little blurb (event) at the very beginning of EVERY project, about 5 seconds long, that appears everytime I go to the very beginning of my project. It says: REMEMBER TO TURN OFF ACCELERATION.

I find that there are times I forget, so, whenever a project opens, and I see this note to myself pop on the monitor, I remember to turn it back off before I get myself into a mess and lose a lot of works.
