VEGAS VIDEO 3 crashes

Brienlee wrote on 12/9/2001, 7:19 PM
When I startup, I get the error message :"This application has failed to open because Fpxlib.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I have reinstalled; same problem.

However, Vegas 3 worked great for two weeks, then today, I had to reload my program from a different directory (abackaup directory). As it read the files, it crashed as follows:

Brien,

Try these steps (forgive me if this sounds elementary, but just for clarity's sake):

1. Hit you "Start" button.
2. Go to "Find".
3. Select "Files or Folders".
4. In the "Named" field, type "fpxlib.dll".
5. In the "Look In" field, select "Local hard drives".
6. Hit the "Find Now" button.
7. If a result comes up, right click on the file(s) and hit "Properties".
8. Hit the "Version" tab and make sure it's version “V1.1.FC1”, and 325 KB in size.
9. If the file is not already in your X:\Windows\System\ (where X is your drive letter), then put a copy in there.
10. If the file is already located there, try to replace it with a different copy (after backing up the old one).
11. If you can't find the file at all, e-mail me and I'll send you one.

Hope this helps,
Nick LaMartina

Hi Nick--

thanks for the help-- I do not have a version that matches your version number, and have none in the system file either, so if you could email me it I would sure appreciate it! What the heck is it anyway? Does it originate with VV3, or windows?

Brien,

I'm not sure exactly what it's for. I know it's some kind of plugin or runtime library. I have two other programs on my machine that use their own versions.
I'm sending you a new copy now. Just put it in your X:\Windows\System directory (where X is the letter of your drive).

Lemme know if it works,

Gary,

Strange... I sent the file to Brien, and now everything works fine on his machine. Maybe you're lucky. =) Either that, or your file is lumped in a CAB somewhere. Whatever floats the boat I suppose...

fpxlib.dll is not installed by Vegas 3.

Well, I have a similar problem with the installation of VV 3 Demo build 76.

The first time I started VV3, it complained missing u32file.dll and asked me to try a reinstallation. Rememer seeing that file in recently installed Ulead Video Studio 5, I copied one over to VV3's directly.

Then I restarted the program, and it didn't give me complains.

But then I was determined to get it "right". So I removed the program (using Control Panel's Add/Remove of course) and reinstalled it.

Alah..God..Almighty...Whatever it is. This time it complained about u32base.dll (also can be found under Ulead Video Studio 5). After seeing this, I thought the VV3 is flawed. I dared not use it. I sent the tech support an email, but never got a reply.

Now that someone else is having a similar problem with this kind of ghost file, I will STRONGLY suggest the programming team of VV3 to take a serious look at their program. Might be a wrong pointer or reference somewhere in their program.

I will try the next version once it's fixed then. Thanks so much. This kind of bug doesn't happen to me every day!
