Vegas Video 4 help?

Hi everyone,

I'm a 14 year old who just got into video editing. My dad had a copy of Vegas Video 4 lying around and I heard it was good, so I loaded it. I experimented for about an hour last night with some skate videos that I am working on, and it seems to work great. Now, I am extremely new to video editing and everything..so don't laugh at me! I was just wondering, I'm trying to put text on the video, I know how to do it, but how can I make it so it shows up on the movie? Whenever I place text, it has a black background and it blocks out the whole movie. Any help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

Ian,

In your media generator, you can set the text color & background color as well as the opacity. Just turn the opacity of the background all the way down and you'll be able to "see" the movie underneath it. There is also a default "white text on transparent background" preset in the text window of the generated media tab. You can drag that up and then just change the text.

You have to change the background color for the text to transparent instead of black. When you put a text event on the timeline the video event FX box comes up. In that box right above where you type your text in there is a tap that says properties. Go under that tab and then you will see 2 boxes with colors in them for the text color and background color. On the box for background color just set the slider for that to transparent. There is a amall box with the checkerboard pattern on it, just move the slider all the way to the bottom, that is transparent.

In addition to the other comments, make sure the title is on a separate track ABOVE the video track. You may need to add a new video track to the project. If you literally put it on top of the video (i.e. on the same track) it will REPLACE that sectio of video.

Actually it is a good thing to keep in mind that the top most track is seen on top of track 2, and track 2 is seen on top of track 3 and track 3 . . . etc etc . . this has got me out of a lot of trouble recently.
