Vegas Video 8 Stuck at "Audio Engine"

jbg_sm wrote on 2/5/2009, 1:25 PM
When I install Vegas 8.0c (or any other version of Vegas), it works & loads the first time I start it up, then if I exit out & restart, it hangs on initializing audio engine phase - does anyone know how I can fix it?

I've read solutions elsewhere in the forum, but none work - DEP settings, Ctrl-Shift for defautl settings. Anyone have any other suggestions for how to get it to work?

Again, the odd thing is that if I uninstall & reinstall, it will load up the first time, but not after that.

Thx for the help.

I would suspect it has something to do with your audio drivers. There have been many instances where audio drivers have caused proplems that seemingly had nothing to do with the audio card, however in your case, it does seem to point in that direction.

after you open Vegas for the first time, try switching the audio drivers in Options | Preferences to Windows Classic. That may help. Back in the "old days" it virtually always worked.

system specs might help....

Thx for the suggestions. Still no luck -

Switched preferences to Wndows Classic audio drivers. Still stuck after first successful startup after install. Not sure why it works right after install then stuck the next time, every time.

System specs
XP Pro, Svc Pack 2
Intel T2600, 2.16 Ghz, 2gb RAM

Any other thoughts?

try uninstalling audio drivers under device manager and letting windows find them on the next boot.

install winxp sp 3. (it can't do any harm, and it might just sort out a 'corruption' somewhere).

you don't have any 3rd party audio codec / drivers installed do you?

In your "system specs" you did not list your audio card and driver version. That would possibly be relevant.
