Vegas video not recognizing files when exploring

I have a template I use for all my videos that I have set up in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Version 9.0a (build 85) This is saved in Vegas as a VF file. When doing videos I open this template and it populates the timeline so that all my videos have the same opening and closing. Today when opening the template VF file it says that my files are offline. It can't find them either. When exploring within the Vegas software the file that contains the media I need is not there. However, when exploring the file through windows it is on my external hard drive where it should be. Vegas doesn't recognize that file anymore. That is the only file that Vegas is not recognzing when exploring. Any help is greatly appreciated as all of my old VF files have media offline now because they all draw from that same file.

Make sure the file extension is correct. When exploring in Windows you will see that a file is either just listed a "File" or if it has the correct extension, it will list the program that created the file.

For example, I frequently get Quicktime .mov files that Vegas won't recognize because the file extension is not there. If I simply rename the file adding the .mov extension it's good to go.

I haven't done anything differently than I did before. It doesn't want to recognize the entire folder which contains a bunch of different files. It worked in the past and just today stopped recognizing it. I have the same folder on two external Hard drives and it doesn't recognize either folder. Perhaps it became corrupted somehow? I can take individual files out of the folder and save them in another place and Vegas recognizes them. It just doesn't want to recognize the folder for some reason.
