Vegas video not recognizing files when exploring

I posted this in another forum perhaps in error so I am reposting here.
I have a template I use for all my videos that I have set up in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Version 9.0a (build 85) This is saved in Vegas as a VF file. When doing videos I open this template and it populates the timeline so that all my videos have the same opening and closing. Today when opening the template VF file it says that my files are offline. It can't find them either. When exploring within the Vegas software the file that contains the media I need is not there. However, when exploring the file through windows it is on my external hard drive where it should be. Vegas doesn't recognize that file anymore. That is the only file that Vegas is not recognzing when exploring. Any help is greatly appreciated as all of my old VF files have media offline now because they all draw from that same file.

Try this: right-click in the vegas explorer window and select view and then select 'all files'. Now, your missing file should show in de explorer window. Drag it to the timeline and tell us if you can see it in the preview window.

That didn't work. The only missing file from the explorer window is precisely the one that has all my files needed to populate the template. Is there a size restriction for being recongnized? I thought perhaps Vegas wouldn't recognize larger files but that doesn't appear to be it as I split it into two files to no avail.
