Vegas Video Playback Error, Which Audio Device Type?

I got an exception error each time I pressed play while attempting to view the Sundance Media training disk VEG files in Win2k Pro. They work fine in Win98, it's only a Win2k Pro issue. My setup is tuned for audio and music and I do need more horsepower for video. I do not have Terminal Services on my machine and don't know if I need it. Vegas crashes completely and throws a criptic exception error.

Now I'm getting the playback to work with no errors after changing the audio device type back to "Microsoft Sound Mapper"! I was using "Windows Classic Wave Driver" and the default playback & recording devices set to "DiO 2448". I thought this was the correct setting! But, it seems to have cured my video playback problem and I tested the audio which continues to work fine. I monitor audio via M-Audio's SPDIF output to DAT. What is the correct setting for audio device type?

I've also learned that IRQ optimization is critical. Recently I opted to use Standard-PC over ACPI in order to get Acid Pro to work. I arranged my PCI expansion cards according to my BIOS and Motherboard's documentation. 3 unshared slots are being used for M-audio, UltraSCSI, and one reserved for Firewire. I opted to set my Ethernet adapter in one of the other 2 PCI slots, shared with the AGP slot (the display adapter). These two share IRQ number 11. Could this be a conflict? My motherboard forces me to share 2 slots IRQs with AGP.

Here is the exepction, but of course it's very criptic:
