Vegas Video wants access to the Internet

Why is VV3.0 trying to access my internet connection everytime it starts? When I posed this question to tech support, they replied that it was looking for updates. Since I had several times allowed the program such access, you would have thought that I had the latest update, but not so when I specifically requested the site to see if my program was up to date (it is a newly installed program).

I refuse the connection now and have seen nothing untoward, but would like to know why this occurs?

Try: Options / Preferences / uncheck the Net Notify box, and click Apply

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that switch.

I was aware of it, but perplexed by it. Since the net never notifies me. I have to look for myself. Why is it there at all? Is someone snooping where they have no business?

Wcoxe1,

No snooping. All Net Notify does is occasionally check for program updates or new software releases from Sonic Foundry. It's to your convenience, unless of course your computer doesn’t have access to the internet. In that case, switch it off.

Hope this helps,

Yeah, it's no big deal! It's important you know it's there......I guess.
I believe it's described in the manual.

If you ever happen to get around to........disabling "Terminal Services" in Win XP, you will most likely be greeted with an error messgae every time you open Vegas: "An error occurred starting vegas. the reason for the error could not be determined."
......Just click OK, and continue..OR leave Terminal Services set to manual or auto.

No big deal, but if anyone knows a registry edit to fix that, let me know.

I am not actually saying any snooping is going on. I merely said that since it never seems to find any updates, in spite of being on the internet 24/7, even when there IS something there to be found, it looks odd.
