VEGAS wins over Avid

OK... so we shoot a lot of Green Screen Talking Head pieces. This means every Video that goes out our door has to be Chroma Keyed, right? We are using VEGAS 4 as our main NLE. We also have Premiere Pro, Edius, & Avid Xpress Pro. The 2 production companies we work with use Avid Symphony. For the past week we've been fighting the Chroma Key battle. Both production companies on their Avid systems versus us on our VEGAS system. (Both companies are lobbying to get us to outsource the work to them) To make a long story short... We Won! We purchased Boris RED 3GL hoping that would get us where we need to be. -Didn't even need it. After futzing with the Sony ChromaKey adjustments and adding some Secondary Color Correction after the ChromaKey... we had very clean edges. I only wish the Sony ChromaKey had 'Spill Suppression' and a few more controls. This would really clean up the Key. (Maybe in V5?)

In a meeting to determine how to proceed, both Production Companies said that they had unsatisfactory results and would need to re-shoot to get the best results. Out of sarcasm they asked to see our sample clip. We showed them the entire project from beginning to end, all done in VEGAS. They almost blew a gasket! They were amazed at how clean our Key was. It also blew them away that they only had 'sample clips' and we had a completed project. Both companies are looking into VEGAS so they can setup second & third workstations to do their offline work and daily's. I'm convinced that once they setup these stations that they will slowly migrate away from their tedius Avid systems.

It would be nice to be able to use VEGAS in conjunction with Avid. Now question... is there a way of exporting an EDL from VEGAS that can be understood by Avid? And Vice Versa? Or what would you guys suggest for a company like ours that still has to collaborate with companies that use Avid?

VEGAS ROCKS!
