Vegas with EMU 1616M - Problems

I just bought Sony Vegas Platinum addition and the digital audio interface on my system is an EMU 1616M. The interface works real well, but there seems to be a problem with Vegas as it is initializing.

When I double-click on the program, and the splash screen appears, it hangs when it is loading the audio engine. For some reason I can't get around this.

I also tried to run a trial edition of Sound Forge, because I was thinking of buying it, but it has the same problem as Vegas. It hangs on the splash screen when it is initializing the audio engine.

I have the latest EMU drivers from their website and my Windows XP Pro drivers are up to date. So, I am not sure what is going on.

I have no problems if I use Adobe Audition when I am editing audio files.

If you're curious, I have a 3.2 GHz dual core machine with 2GB of memory running XP Pro.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

Try disabling the card in the Windows system hardware panel, reboot, and see if Vegas now loads. If yes, then that's the culprit.

Also make sure you have the latest drivers for this device installed and the latest DirectX and .NET 3.0 version.

I checked, and I have .NET 3.5 and the latest DirectX. So, I disabled the EMU in the Drivers tab of the System panel and then rebooted. When I start Vegas, it still hangs on the splash screen at the point where it says, "Creating audio engine".

That's odd. If I had a different sound interface, I would try it and see if the problem went away. But I don't.

I just disabled all services in MSCONFIG and then rebooted, then restarted Vegas. Same problem.

I think I may pull the E-MU card out and see if it clears up the problem.

Yeah, if you can do that, then it's cool. Otherwise, it seems that your OS configuration and services is such that Vegas and all other SonyCreative apps that use the same source code don't like. Would be an interesting bug report for them I think.

Here's more info.

I uninstalled the EMU and pulled the card out of the computer. Didn't change anything. I then ran MSCONFIG and disabled all services (I have a lot, I'm a software developer). Then rebooted and ran Vegas, same problem.

So, now I'm really puzzled. On one hand I'm glad, because I won't have to change audio interfaces.

But I still have the problem.

Yeah, you will have to do a bug report with Sony I am afraid. Mention that you are a developer so they can send you some debug instructions to send back to them.

BTW, the last time i had vegas not loading and was stopping in that screen was when my .NET installation got corrupted. I had to download a special third party tool to completely eradicate .NET before installing all the relevant versions again, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 i think.

Also try to re-install the latest DirectX.

I submitted a question to Tech Support, so I'll wait and see what they say.
