have you used a mouse with a wheel that doesn't go "tick tick tick?" before? I have & I hated it, it was so easy to accidentally slide whole webpages, zoom really far in/out in vegas (3rd button feature worked fine tough for scrolling sideways). My next mouse (razer copperhead) had the tick-tick-tick & I LOVE it.

It does seem to have a lot. I recently suffered from a pinch nerve in my neck that left me useless and in excruciating pain for a week, and I was reminded that it's important to pay some attention to ergonomics. The position we usually use mice is just unnatural, so I was looking for a mouse that would offer a more diagonal posture for my wrist, without shelling out $70 for that other tall MS mouse. However, I'm starting to get some pain from using it because the pointer precision seems very poor (with "Enhance Pointer Precision" checked), and the pointer stalls at times, making it even harder to point an item. I might have to get the USB receiver closer, but being that it's a rather expensive mouse I would expect the wireless to perform flawlessly at about three feet, even with a 1/2 inch desk between mouse and receiver.

However, to answer the other post too, the mouse wheel is awesome to me. Of course you have to set its sensitivity to very low and no acceleration, but I love the smoothness of going up and down a webpage without that annoying tactactactac feeling on my finger. But if it doesn't work in Vegas, plus the stuff I wrote earlier, I think I'm going to pack it and return it tomorrow.

I hate laser mice. They are not as smooth as optical mice, at least the ones I've used.

I use a logitech MX518, I figure no-one will abuse a mouse more than a frustrated gamer, so this is going to last a long time ( plus it has on the fly sensativity adjustment that lets me get very refined movement very quickly if I really want it ).

The "stalling" isn't necessarily a mouse issue. It can often be a program or a back ground task temporarily freezing the mouse pointer.

On another note... The MX Revolution is about the best mouse I have ever used. The "click, click" or no "click click" can be shifted on/off. The wheel is nicely weighted for hi speed scrolling.... it's just great little mouse. I've got J,K,L movements programed into the mouse as well as S for cutting...

I thought so, but it happens a lot with this mouse. With my regular mouse (a corded Logitech Notebook Optical Mouse I paid $15 for) it happened a little bit occasionally but never this much.

The MX Revolution is good, I played with it at stores and I like that side wheel, but paying a hundred bucks for a mouse is definitely out of my league. I think what I'll do is build a wood diagonal frame that will allow me to keep the whole mouse pad slightly inclined to the right but not as much as to make the mouse slide down. I tried this at work today with a bin folder and it made my mouse handling more comfortable.

Oh, that's the first thing I did.

The MS monster is packed and ready to go back to Circuit City. I'll just stay with my old 'n trusty Logitech mouse for now.

what about a trackball? my wife uses loves hers. At first she didn't even want to try it, but after I forced her to she won't do anything without it!

Along with the Happy Friar's wife, include me firmly in the trackball camp. I use the Kensington Expert Mouse trackballs, I was kind of expecting Spot to mention them as well. They're not cheap, but this is one of those things that it doesn't matter how much they cost. I don't care how good a mouse is, it's still a mouse. As an interface device, after you've used a Kensington trackball, mice no longer make any sense.

I have this mouse, I absolutely hate it and I thought it was just me. My scroll is sometimes jumpy, especially in Vegas. The range is just, well, frustrating.
I suppose this will be my impetus to buy a new mouse this weekend. Nice!
