I now see that I have the same problem when I simply try to save it to my hard drive in the MPEG-1 format that seems to be the default for a vcd.
I used Render As; when I push the OK button everything just remains at is. It doesn't render.

Perhaps I should mention also that I have Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 installed. Is it known whether there is any kind of inconsistency between this program and Vegas?

I've never tried to burn VCDs with Vegas, but if you uninstall the program and then reinstall it, it might fix itself. Make sure you don't have any media stored in the "C:\programfiles\sonicfoundry\" folder or any subfolders. If you do, move it, as you will lose it during the uninstall process.

Beorn: I suspect it has something to do with Roxio interfering; I've read elsewhere that it's notorious for this type of thing. Perhaps I'll uninstall it and see what happens. But I'm hoping someone here can give me some guidance.

Yeah, I've also heard a lot of bad stuff about Roxio killing other programs ability to burn. Not always though...
