In preferences, under the Video tab, uncheck "Use external video capture application."

After doing this, triggering capture should bring the "Capture" pane up, which will work with your FX1.

Thanks a million. It worked perfectly. Now how would I capture my old camera, DV (Sony TRV230)? Just recheck the box?
epirb wrote on 4/22/2005, 2:46 PM
Yes,(recheck the box, select 1394 device) and use the vid cap application for DV, the internal capture is for HDV of your FX1.
donwidener wrote on 4/22/2005, 2:51 PM
Where do you select 1394 device? Thanks!

The vidcap60 will not start. It won't do anything.

Being V6 is new to all of us , i went and retried heres what I found in pref. under the video tab
ucheck the use external capture application.
plug in FX1 wait for windows too "see" it . (sound)
press capture button in project media tab and it opens the internal capture app. and sees the FX1.
I then closed the capture app. unplugged the FX1 connected a DV cam ,rechecked the box in the video tab of pref's. then clicked the capture button in the project media tab and Vid Cap opened for me.

I havent tried capturing dv from the FX1 , but remember if you do and your switcching back and forth on the FX1 to have the firewire cable unplugged from the cam when doing so.

The capture button does nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program twice. The capture window for regular DV will not open.

I think update to 6a will take care of this problem. I am downloading it now.
donwidener wrote on 4/22/2005, 7:55 PM
That tyook care of it. You must install update 6a in order to capture DV properly. Thanks for all your help.

Now I have an even MORE annoying problem. I get a message everytime I bootup my machine saying "The MSSQL$SONY_MEIDAMGR service does not exist or the current account does not have enough privilege to manage it." I unchecked the media manager, so Vegas works fine without it, but I cannot tolerate the message everytime I boot the machine. Help!!!!

I got the HDV working ok. Then I could not get the capture screen to open for DV, (see other posts). After downloading 6a and installing, the capture screen will open for DV. However, when I finish the capture, the capture screen freezes and won't close, thus not saving the video. This is the most frustrating software I have ever owned.

When I try to shut down the normal capture utility (not HDV) it hangs and here are the details:

OK. I fixed it.

If you uninstall (as I did) and try to reinstall you will get the error. I uninstalled with the add or remove software under control panel. I suspected there may have been files left on my hard drive so I went to the program files, found sony, then vegas 6, then sony media manager and deleted that folder. When I reinstalled, I got no error. Media manager loaded fine, and I was able to cature error free with both my FX1 and my Sony trv230 DV camera. As of right now I AM HAVING NO PROBLEMS WITH VEGAS 6! I am so thankful because I have used versions 4 and 5 and am pleased to see the HD support in this version.
