Anyone else experiencing strange behavior after the update? Vegas 5 is getting worse for me ,, not opening, not capturing video , now the timeline preview doesn't even preview,,, All I get is a still...... I'm going to hold back flaming sony because I don't know yet what is causing this but I do know I was happily using vegas 4,,,,,,,,,, So now, I have to use a $29.95 video program to work on a project tomorow,,, Ya know, it works and is doing its job,, how embarrassing...........

Don't knock the $29.95 programs, yip they look like toys but some of them are very capable for what they do and a lot faster than Vegas.
Sorry I haven't upgraded yet so cannot comment on your problem BUT so many have been using it for a while I'm certain if it was a problem in the code there's a good cahnce someone else would have had the same issue by now.
Have you looked at your CPU utilization when you open Vegas?

There's a LOT more under the hood in V5, I suspect, so a lot more ways for things outside of Vegas to cause things to go wrong.
TheHappyFriar wrote on 4/25/2004, 7:31 PM
It sounds like something else may be wrong with the comp (and it just got worse when you installed V5).

I'd recomend a format & re-install, but since oyu need your comp tomorrow... :) Can you use Vegas 4?

I agree with you but what is it outside of vegas that could be causing this? As for the cpu utilization ,, Checking it now wouldn't tell me much,,,,, I going to turn off the life support to vegas and start over,,,,, I guess I'm just one of the unlucky ones, Somewhere there was conflict that originated and worsend but what ,,this is a new one for me......

I have had the curious problem of V5 freezing up on the splash screen. It opens once fine, but if I close it down and restart it, it freezes. Sometimes it eventually opens, sometimes I have to Crtl/Alt/Del and shut it down, and sometimes I have to reboot. I used to have a similar problem with DVDA1 freezing up on first opening. I had to shut it down and on second opening it worked fine. Now DVDA2 is fine and V5 freezes. Gremlins.

That was my first choice ,,,to use vegas 4 but it aquired some of the symptons I was experiencing in Vegas 5,,not being able to capture video and responding very slow,,,,,,,,,,, freezing for about a minute, windows staying open.......mouse trails,, I'm on my 3rd cup of jo at 10.00 pm,, guess I'm not sleeping tonight.....

You running Window XP? Do you have a motherboard with an nForce chipset from nVidia? I'll give more explaination if you have an nForce.

If you are running XP then you might can use system restore to a point before you installed Vegas.

I have xp ,,I don't have nforce,,,, You're right system restore might be the solution...

Does anybody know what the Windows XP system file "wowexec.exe" does? When V5 freezes at the splash screen, I noticed that "wowexec.exe" is indented right below it in Windows Task Manager Processes list. If I shut "wowexec.exe" down, V5 starts immediately.
Cheesehole wrote on 4/25/2004, 8:04 PM
I believe wowexec has something to do with running 16 bit apps. On Win64 you get a lot more WOW stuff but it's for running 32 bit stuff this time.

Here ya go:

Process File: wowexec or wowexec.exe
Process Name: Windows On Windows Execution Process
Description: Windows On Windows Execution Support Process that provides support for 16-bit Windows applications together with ntvdm.exe. The service is started by NTVDM, which starts every time you run a 16-bit program.

The net framework is needed for the scripting functions within Vegas - did you definitely instal net 1.1 version?
DataMeister wrote on 4/25/2004, 8:29 PM
A link to the Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 file can be found on the "Download > Utilities" page.

here in fact.

Im hooped.. Vegas 5 just wont work for me the way 4 did.. I cant capture, cant edit realtime unless I go DRAFT and only 1 track.. damn I was so excited when I got the upgrade now it just doesnt work, and I have a feature to edit. I guess vegas 4 is the way to go for now.

If you need to return all settings to their original values, CTRL+Shift + restart Vegas resets all preferences to the factory defaults. You might try this and see if it helps. Takes virtually no time and would be the first step I would recommend taking. I'd only do the system restore or reinstallation as a last step.

Also, I would definitely run Adaware from Lavasoft. It is amazing how much stuff can creep into a computer, and some of it can do exactly what you are describing. Here is their web site:

Lavasoft

and here is a direct download link to their free software:

Yes ,,I originaly installed the file..... As of now,,, I'm almost back in business,, I bounced 3 system restores, cleaned the registry, re-installed vegas 4 and 5,, they are running smooth but I can't capture video,,I'm getting" preview is turned of"f in the blue window but it is not, I open vegas with the camera on I do'nt get the message in the blue window but it doesn't capture,,, what next? ,,,maybe more icecream or coffee
jardeano wrote on 4/25/2004, 9:22 PM
My problem is only with vegas 4 and 5,,, Thank god,, other apps are running normal.....
Jarred Land wrote on 4/25/2004, 9:30 PM
ha ha same boat.. no capture. I actually have to goto Microsoft movie maker to capture video which is totally retarded.. but at least it works.
jardeano wrote on 4/25/2004, 9:34 PM
Ha ,Ha ya know you're right in times like this,, it's good to laugh,,,thanks for the idea to capture in movie maker,,,,
jardeano wrote on 4/26/2004, 4:34 AM
The latest with my situation is, Vegas 4 and 5 seem to run ok,,, but I still can't capture a video... I'm getting" preview is turned off" in the blue window.. As far as I know the preview is turned on,, The other problem I'm having now, is I can,t capture video from other apps on my computer,, It seems that something is corrupted,,, Did vegas 5 do this ? Not sure yet,,, Everything on my computer was running fine before I installed Vegas 5,,, A system restore fixed other problems but not the one I'm having with capturing video,,,,,, I tested my camera on another computer and it the video capture worked fine......
