This question does not make sense if a user does not own both plugins.
fosko wrote on 8/13/2014, 1:18 PM
I was confused....but I think you're saying...you can't compare if you don't own both ?
OK.. if you own one or the other then what are your pros and cons ?
And if you own both how do they compare ?

Own both and they do work well in a single installation - can not be determined as an either/or question because they do different things. Vegasaur in general will appeal to the average user - but production assistant is good for the pro who has more extended needs.

I find the feature set of Production Assistant is more limited and aimed for special cases (e.g. I like to use it for the use of project layouts) whereas the feature set of Vegasaur is really huge and it is likely everyone will find many valuable features.

> "I find the feature set of Production Assistant is more limited and aimed for special cases (e.g. I like to use it for the use of project layouts) whereas the feature set of Vegasaur is really huge and it is likely everyone will find many valuable features."

That's because Production Assistant is really focused on "batch process automation". The ability to take process functions and string them together into a workflow is an extremely powerful feature that Production Assistant excels at. Of course the ability to create entire projects from templates as another big feature that is unique to Production Assistant and has been enhanced with a Template Creator and Template Mapper in version 2.0. It also has a "hands-free" workflow where you insert the card from your camera and Production Assistant can senses it, copy the files to your hard drive, open Vegas with a template, run some batch processing, and even render automatically without every touching a thing other than specifying the folder for the project. That particular feature is really aimed at the Same Day Event and Run & Gun/ENG News Gathering market.

For more general interactive editing tools VASST has Ultimate S Pro, Ultimate S Lite, and now the FasstApps that allow you to purchase just the functions you want at the low price of $9.95 USD each. These are more generic and targeted at features that everyone will find valuable. Vegasaur falls more into this category.

Also Production Assistant and Ultimate S Pro have Photo Montage, MotoFoto, Lower Thirds, and Film Looks which Vegasaur doesn't have. Ultimate S Pro also contains an audio plug-in from iZotope to enhance your audio with presets for voice overs and a number of audio setups. Both Production Assistant and Ultimate S Pro (and the FasstApps) have free video training available.

So Production Assistant is really aimed at solving different "workflow" problems than interactive tools like Ultimate S Pro, FastApps, and Vegasaur. Also take a look at Excalibur, another great interactive tool from JetDV (Edward). You should look at all of these tools before making a decision.

I'm pretty sure that Vegasaur's Transcoder can do everything that PA can do in terms of "batch process automation".

Don't think we should ignore Timeline tools either guys. A very flexible tool set.

As jr said, ProductionAssistant is a targeted product to people who need to automate full processes.
In that domain, it is really powerful and I don't think Vegasaur can compete with all those fully automated features.

but.
as to VASSTUltimate S xx/FasstApps / Excalibur vs Vegasaur...
Really, there is no match : Vegasaur is cheap, and can do all, if not more than its competitors, within a well thought, more user friendly GUI.

Before Vegasaur, i used both Ultimate S and Excalibur, both for some of its functions.
With Vegasaur 1.9, I now can stick with one and only productivity extension, since it can do all that others previously did for me.

So my call :Vegasaur (if it still wasnt clear enough, hehe;)
I also use Timeline Tools, good call from PhillB. (and its free...)

My 2 cents.
