Vegase 16 MPEG-4-Codec not activating - failure during Start

webkeeper wrote on 9/1/2019, 2:06 PM

Today I started Vegas Pro 16 Build 424 and I got a Pop up that activation of Funktion MPEG-4-Coded also MPEG-2-CODEC failed. The result is that it is not loading my Project that used to work fine in the past. I also tried to start Vegas as Administrator but that did not help. I also re-installed Vegas Pro 16 Build 424 - did not solve the issue.

Even with a new Project and just clicking on a mp4 file the activation error Pop´s up.

My Windows Version is Windows 10 (1903 - 18362.329) (My Hardware has not changed, now Firewall!)

Add. Info: I installed VEGAS Pro 17 Trial Version and there is no warning message about activation MPEG Codecs. My Project and Video files work just fine. VEGAS 16 still Comes up with the activation issue. Maybe there is a Problem at VEGAS Server that activates codecs?

Yess but if you let Window too much tasks it maybe is not allowed on your PC that a program itself makes contact through the internet.
Controle your adm account on this in Windows and also Windows defender or another virusprogram.

No Firwall on PC is active. Vegas worked fine last week with same Project. Even with a new Project and just clicking on a mp4 file the activation error Pop´s up.

Hi @webkeeper

Here's an out of the box idea to check!
Another user on my own forum, encountered a similar problem a few months ago.
After a large amount of messaging backwards and forwards, we located the problem.

Solution: Login to your Magix account and check the activations for Vegas Pro 16.
https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/
Magix allows 2x activations on 2x separate computers.
If you exceed this, you may get that pop-up window suddenly appearing and be mystified as to why that would happen.

Go to My Products
Find Vegas Pro 16
Where it says Serial Number, select Show more details.
If you see 2x activations have been used, De-activate both of them.
Logout of Magix

Now re-boot your computer.
Please note that sometimes there can be a 5 to 10 minute lag before the Magix servers de-activate Vegas.
Open Vegas and you should be greeted with the Activation window.
Activate.
Now open your project or import a video and hopefully this time it the Codec activates correctly.

Regards
Derek

That's a shame, because it worked for the other person I helped.

There's only one thing left to do then.

Maybe it is caused by the last Windows Update? Anyone else having the updates installed?

I have exactly the same Windows Updates here on 31-8, no problems with activations.

Some type of glitch has happened, possibly in your Windows Registry.
Magix support will be the only ones who can help with this type of problem.

Hi - I did some more digging with procmon from MS and found that Vegas had a Problem with a registry value that it did not have permissions to see or Change.

I set "full access" to that registry key to my user and now it´s working.

I did also send this solution to MAGIX Support because I had opened a ticket.
