I have a projet in 5.1 and when I listen the center channel I can hear it on my left speaker and the LFE on the right speaker.
When I check my PC, the Realtek gives the right signal to each channel 5.1.
Is there anything to do in some Vegas menu.
I'm not sure what your drivers Realtek supports, but you should look at Vegas menu Options|Preferences|Audio Device tab.
Audio device type: select ASIO if available for optimum performance, or Widows Classic Wave Driver.
Once either of these are selected, you should get some more choices below for Default front/rear/centre&LFE playback.
Just set these to the correct channel pairs for your card. e.g. Str1-2 for front, Str5-6 for rear, Str3-4 for C/Lfe
Thanks for your advice.
I could solve my problem.
In fact I have to select Direct Sound Surround Mapper instead of Microsoft Sound Mapper.
Now I have all channels at the right place.
I've brand new PC with M-Audio Revolution 5.1 card. I got it because of ASIO drivers.
Now, when mixing with VP8 I noticed that speakers were not following the surround panner. With Direct Sound Sound Mapper everything was OK. I did not trust Vegas Surround Master meters alone, I also checked with M-Audio's output mixer.
I checked and triple checked the setting in Preferences and tried to change the assignments to different channels in M-Audio. No help. Then I checked the Surround Master assignments (the routing button just below the double square in Surr.Master) and lo-and-behold: routings were wrong.
My question is: why do I have the settings in Preferences, when they do not affect the settings in s/m? Can I now trust that the surr.master keeps the settings as they should be or do I need to check those every time I start VP8?
