Hi,
I just installed Vegas Pro 8 and ran it for the first time. As soon as the main window opened, I got the message
Vegas Pro 8 Error
Failed to register with Windows Terminal Services
I exited the program right away and one of those typical WinXP error messages appeared:
Instruction 0x02792FA9 referenced memory at 0x02802248. The memory could not be "Read"
I checked my WinXP services and found that the Terminal Services are disabled. It seems as though Vegas Pro needs the Terminal Services for some reason.
According to the Microsoft Management Console I used to view my installed services, "Terminal Services" are used as part of Remote Desktop to enable multiple users to connect interactively to my PC, the display, and installed applications.
Hmm. Why does Vegas Pro 8 need this capability? I don't need and don't want this capability for the workstations on my LAN. Is there another way to defeat this error besides enable Terminal Services?
System summary:
Dell Dimension 8300 3.2GHz 1GB RAM
2 Internal HD 250 GB each, 100 GB free each
3 External USB HD, 300 GB each, 100 GB free (avg)
OS: WinXP SP 2
DVD: Nec DVD+/-RW 3530A (2)
Thanks to all and have a good day!

EDIT: in looking around the forum I've found that the "Terminal Services" error has been going on at least since Version 7. If there's a real need to be running the Terminal Services, maybe someone at Sony can tell us what it is. "Fast User Switching" is something I'll never need and do not want to activate this service just to make the error message go away.
