VegasPro13 (sony version) audio editing question

BobMoyer wrote on 7/20/2017, 1:32 PM

Please understand that I am strictly an amateur... I have two audio recordings made with amateur equipment. The audio seems to my ears to be a little 'harsh'. I know in video to soften an event you can add a little Gaussian blur. Is there an audio effect to produce a similar 'softening'? I know in the effects window there are delimiters, noise gate, and probably various others but is one better than the other AND which particular control setting would you recommend? Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Sound Forge Pro has a Smooth/Enhance plug-in, I actually use the 'Smooth' mode a lot, when parts or words in a dialog track are annoyingly harsh. Rarely do I smoother the whole track though. I'm sure there's VST plug-ins available that does the same thing. You could try EQ'ing out some of the harshness, it's 'usually' centered 'around' 3 to 5kHz or so (for dialog).

Thanks for the quick reply. I have Sound Forge Pro but really never fooled around with it very much. However, I will definitely check out your suggestion. Thanks again.

You may also possibly find the Smooth/Enhance in your VegasPro Audio FX.

I don't know If the 'Smooth/Enhance' process is included with Vegas, but if SF pro is installed, it should be available in the Vegas plug-in chainer.

FWIW, I also don't know if 'Smooth/Enhance' is available in Sound Forge Audio Studio, but it is in the soon to be released Sound Forge Audio Studio 12.

The 'Smooth/Enhance' fx did the trick, thank you very much.
