Are you creating DVD compatible files? What software are you using to burn the disks?

I am using a TV tuner in a network computer to record Mpeg -2 video files.
typical movie, 1 1/2hrs is 2.16 gb. I then drag the mpg file to my computer.
Using Nero 6 i tried to burn as DVD video, but got a message saying the over 2gb file won't work unless i use something to do with UDF.
So i tried burning with the UDF format and it did burn the file to disk, but my home DVD and PC DVD drives would not recognize it.

I tried to use vegas to cut the mpeg file into smaller pieces but failed.
i don't know much about the video aspects of vegas.
i split the movie into small pieces, moved the pieces to new tracks and tried to render one of them by soloing the tracks, like i would do to audio.
after about a 30 minute wait, it was 4% into the render with 3 hours yet to go, so i figure i did something wrong.

in days gone by, when i only had a CDr i would burn mpegs to Video CD using nero, and my DVD would play them fine. however, they were all short music videos or i would continue to do it that way. now that i have the DVD burner i would love to burn longer things.

does this make sense?

Depending on the length of the clip you are rendering, it isn't unreasonable for it to take three hours. In my experience, re-rendering MPEG files does take a while. I captured a few video clips as MPEG-2 files, then re-rendered them using Vegas after adding a sharpen fx, and a five minute clip would take 1 1/2 hours to render.

If the size of the file is under 4 GB, I don't see why you can't burn them to a DVD. It is probably an issue with Nero 6 (I've never used Nero to burn), so you might want to find some different DVD authoring software and try it out. I've only used DVD-Architect, and that has always burned everything fine.
