Go to Properties for the audio event and there's a drop down menu for Time stretch/pitch shift that lets you choose between Change lenght, preserve pitch (Default), Change pitch, preserve length or Change both, which is probably what you want.

The only way to stretch or shrink sound clips is to resize the clip while holding down the CTRL key. There is no equivalent to the velocity envelope in relation to sound in Vegas. You may be able to do it in Sound Forge, but I've just received the program and haven't even had a chance to install it.

If the audio track is grouped with the video track you are manipulating, the sound track will follow the velocity you set for the video track, according to the choices you've made under sound properties.

EDIT: No, that was wrong. I should have teste before i wrote.

Nope - the audio track is NOT affected by a Velocity Envelope. Only by CTRL-resize

That was quick.
However, the dialogue under the audio event properties does make it possible to alter the pitch and or the lenght of the event.

Yes it does. Just not with variable speeds - only one constant speed. (i.e. same as CTRL-resize)

The option Change pitch, preserve length is not available for Ctrl-drag, for obvious reasons. Instead, you must enter the amount you want the pitch to change (semitones and cents). And the event will stay in sync!

Lost me there. I don't see how what you suggested does what we're talking about.

The velocity envelope for video allows a shift to slowmo and still frame over time. Let's say 5 seconds from 100% to still frame. What I need is the same functionality of a velocity envelope for audio. I'd also like a single velocity envelope that could effect one or more video and audio tracks. Then for the audio velocity I would like to have the option to set a property to maintain pitch while the actual audio velocity changes. Of course the quality deterioriates as the amount of pitch retention or shift changes, but that's just a fact of life.
