Venetian blinds tip

Not sure if they are in fashion this week, but if you want venetion blinds on your video, use the text generator. Make a grill of solid underlines (_) and adjust point size, tracking and leading to get what you want. You can then adjust the colour and add shadow too. Finally you can squish from right or left to get the perspective look. If you know of an easier way, by all means do that. I've pulled down the opacity to 32 %.

Looks great, Tor, well done!

but ...

In my text generator I don't seem to have an underline tool - there are BOLD and Italic icons, but no underline - where is it ? (Vegas 4.0c)

I believe TorS is referring to the underline character (on US keyboards hold the shift key down and press the key between Zero and Equals).

Ah - THAT underline! ______

Thanks Kelly - we've even got that one on true blue all aussie keyboards!

Nice tip, but now you need to project the shadow of the venetian blinds onto the wall behind the girl for realism. I wonder how hard that would be to do?

Experiment with the compositing mode and height map. I'm not familiar with them, but I can see it's possible to make something that at least looks like what you are suggesting. Give it a try.

The Shadow in Track Motion will put a nice shadow across the girl ... I tried a bit of height mapping, but that bent the blinds as well as the shadow ...

If you want to view a scene through blinds you need the blinds themselves (plus their shadow). You need to copy the blinds track then, and keep one straight. But if you are on the inside watching you will only see the shadow of the blinds cast on the scene.

The only reason I mentioned it is because you could see the sun hitting the wall with the shadow of the window (and video person), but there was no shadow of the blinds. Another alternative would be to make sure the camera angle was such that you never see the sun shining on the wall, avoiding the situation completely.

Swampler, it's just an example. Personally I don't even LIKE venetian blinds (on film and video).
